Emotiva CD Player

Emotiva is currently designing a solid state CD player. It should be available in a few months. Here are some initial specs:
  • 24 bit processor with 384 x oversampling
  • 4 independent power supplies
  • capable of producing 7 volts of output
  • slot-load system
  • weighs around 30 pounds
  • expected retail price is $499

I'll post prototype pics once they become available to the general public.
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

    Whats with crazy upsampling these days? I was just reading about those 32bit dacs, it all seems like such overkill.

    Sounds interesting though, but I would never buy one. 7v is way to much output IMO, hell 2v is more than enough for most systems.

    I'd like to know more about the 7-volt output thing. This spec is sometimes found on high end CDPs. Maybe someone can explain it?

    with the high voltage, you can bypass a pre and drive an amp directly

    wadia iirc has high voltage on there cdp too
    my 7.(1x4) HT setup

    Either that or listen reeeaaaallllyyy loud. Actually 7v would overload most amps and cause damage. If you bypass the pre you could use attenuators, not direct but the next best thing.

    I listen with passive pres in all my systems and 2v is more than enough for me. Hell I had a .3v source which was enough gain, and thats with 2v input sensitivity amps.

    Are these going to be similar to the Onix CDPs?

    Not me. I just hook my CDP straight to my amp and listen at line level. Oh ya... :D

    I'd be interested to check it out when it is released as well. They have done well in the "budget" market on other products and this may do well as well.

    they should...and should be manipulated within the digital stream to avoid mechanical contact volume controls...

    the CDP would need to have variable audio output RCA connectors.. some CDP's have them.

    Ric Schultz was famous for this. He felt pres colored the sound to much so he went passive. That wasn't good enough so he made his Ultimate Attenuators. That wasn't good enough so he went straight from the CDP->Amp but it was to loud, so rumor has hit he now solders single resistors into the signal path. If he wants to change the volume he breaks out the soldering iron.
