Who got their 80G PS3 with Metal Gear Solid 4 today?

I was at Best Buy early this morning. I was a little worried because I stopped by Gamestop for the 12am release and there was a line of 50 people for 2 MSG4 Bundles.

Just a few people at BB this morning. They had about 25 units so I had no problems.

Can't wait to hook it up.:D

I picked up the 40 gig version 2 weeks ago. Probably should have waited, but oh well. Does your 80 gig version bundle the new dual shock stick as well?

Although out of stock online, walmart's site specs the bundle as:

    $499

PlayStation 3 80GB Limited Edition Metal Gear Solid 4 Pack Includes:

    PlayStation 3 80GB
    Metal Gear Solid 4 game
    DUALSHOCK 3 Controller
Voucher for free downloadable PAIN game

So it's a great deal for those that score it with the $100 gift card with the new dual shock and the games.

Just saw it has an optical output. That's awesome. I'm looking at the 80GB right now.

Two questions: Does it play SACD (and is it only through HDMI, or are there analog outs somewhere), and will it play PS2 games (I have a bunch somewhere).

    Thanks!

80GB does do SACD. I think the only analog outs it has are the stereo analog jacks for backwards compatibility with older TVs. And it does do ps2 games with software emulation. So unless you have an obscure title that they wouldn't release an update for, it should work with thousands of your favorite games.

So, even without an HDMI receiver, I can get SACD stereo sound from the analog outputs, right?

    Thanks for the help/info.

Yes, but you will be at the mercy of the cheap ICs that come with the machine unless you upgrade. The ps3 uses a proprietary connector at the console end. It is the same one the ps2 uses. So any of the 3rd party ICs from Monster, etc. will work designed specifically for use with one of these systems.

Supposedly, the optical also works for listening to 2-channel. And they temporarily had a downsampling method for listening to a multichannel DTS version over optical but it was disabled in a later firmware update.

Your only option for listening to SACD decoded to multichannel high-resolution PCM (24-bit, 176 kHz) remains HDMI, though.

Here's a pretty detailed rundown of your SACD options with the ps3:
