How power outages affect my HK 635

I live up in the mountains and for what ever reason my electricity goes off fairly regularly. Every time this happens the settings on my HK AVR635 revert back to default settings and I have to re-enter in all my settings (speaker sizes, channel adjustments, cross-overs, etc). This is such a pain in the ****. Does this happen to everyone else too? Does anyone know a way to get around this?

    no it doesn't happen to me.. since our power rarely goes out.. can you add a backup battery power supply like the ones used for computers? it would tick me off if that happen to me as often as it sounds like it's happening to you..

    as complex as AVR's and pre amps are to configure, it would be a big PITA for sure.

    It takes me well over an hour to reconfigure all the settings in my pre amp if it should be reset. something I truly hate doing.

    put the HK, only the HK on a Uninterrupted Power Supply

    it will give you time to shut it down properly whenpower goes off suddenly

    That was the main gripe I had about my 635, I think it happens to alot of people, Drove me nuts having to get the mic and tripod out to re-run the EZ-EQ every time the power blinked.

    That Belkin PureAv is nice, but at $400, it is worth more than the HK is.

    You can usually find it for half of that on Amazon. I believe I may have even paid under $200.

    Ive got an HK 525. When my power goes out (infrequently), I lose all my settings in my AVR as well. I assumed it was a dead internal battery, and ordered a new one from HK for cheep. WHen I got it in the mail, I realized that this wasn't a simple fix - I thought I would be able to easily swap them out like a watch. Turns out that the battery has to be soldered. So, I didn't go forward with the fix and to this day I just bite the bullet and reprogram it when I need to.
    Do you hear that buzzing noise? :confused:

    Interesting. I'm going to call HK tomorrow and get more info about this internal battery deal.

    So, I called HK today and they indicated that there is a capacitance network to retain memory settings, which needs to be replaced. My HK has a 2 year warranty, so this fix will be covered.

    Off to the shop & cross my fingers it's that easy.

    I guess I am too late with the fix suggestion ;) Yes, there is a capacitor network (usually 3 caps) feeding the memory chip. One cap is fairly large and usually it blows. 95% chance that it's your problem. However, sometimes the actual memory chip is dead - I had the capacitor problem in my 520, and the chip was dead in 510.
