D-Sonic 3 channel amp (Magnum 750-3)

Since I'm already set with my Krell KAV 250a (250w) two channel amp, I want to round out my system with a 3 channel amp & to keep the power about the same, the Magnum 750-3 is 250x3. I've read good things about the D-Sonic amps & I know a few here already have them & are very pleased with them.

What intrigues me about the D-Sonic amps is their small footprint & hi-power. The ICEpower modules that they use are very highly regarded in a number of areas, hi-power, no heat, reliability & the most important of all is their sound quality which is top notch.

I thought about a matching Krell KAVa/3 (3 channel amp) but it's just too darn big. Any other 3 channel amp suggestions you have for me are welcome.

    Wouldn't a 3 channel Adcom go better with the Krell? Just asking.

    That I really couldn't tell you. But I would think that in HT mode you would be hard pressed to hear any differences in sound using amps from different manuf. But for two channel listening the Krell would be the only workhorse playing. Maybe others could shed some light on the matter.

    Consider a 5-channel amp. The prices are similar between a 3 & 5 channel amps. Plus, you'll have more flexibility with a 5-channel amp.

    There won't be much difference between most of the icepower based amps, especially ones using the smps power supply. The modules come premade from b&o, the only thing the company has that they can change is case, input wiring, and some do some mods. That said

    If it was me I would look at a NHT Power5 if it wasn't to large. They pop up every week or so on Agon/Ebay for $1200, sometimes brand new. They use the same 250wpc modules as the D-Sonic, but it is a 5ch for less then the 3ch. The D-Sonic should be a phenomenal amp though, and run stone cold, at least from my experience with various icepower amps.

    I hear ya Early, the only down side to that would mean that I'd have to give up my Krell!! :eek: I'm not ready for that just yet.

    Plus by going with a 3 channel amp, I have the option to play around with other two channel amps if the mood strikes me. Don't forget my dream amp is a Mac MC402. If I went with a 5 channel amp, then pulled the trigger on the Mac, then I'd be in a pickle. What to do??

    I don't understand why you'd have to give up your Krell. Keep it and use only three channels of the 5-channel amp. Or you could bi-amp your fronts. Or you could power a couple of subs for stereo bass from the extra channels.

    Space is a concern. Those 5/7 channel amps are usually pretty big & heavy. There's not much room left on my rack & putting another amp on the floor might be an option but a last resort. I already have my Krell on an amp stand on the floor between my mairs.

    What's your thoughts on the sound quality? What did the new D-Sonic 2500-7 amp replace & did you notice any difference in performance?

    i went from the d-sonic M500S to the M2500-7

    hmm...sq, i would say they are neutral and effortless. Especially now with the DTS-HD MA soundtracks - they keep up with what ever i play thru them with gusto!

    regarding remaining cool, they do generate a bit of heat but not too much - my av processor gets hotter than this amp after i watch a movie at ear splitting levels.

    I run the D-Sonic Magnum 1000S on my Rti12s, awesome amp, stays cool when left on 24/7. As you noted, small foot print but powerful. I would and will probably buy another one as slowcar has.
