12 volt trigger question

Hello, the Onkyo 805 has an RI trigger that is supposed to be used for other Onkyo products and a 12 volt trigger for the number 2 zone. Can either of these be used to trigger the Rotel RMB-1077?

    12 volt should work fine. Check the current that the Rotel pulls and the current that the Onkyo puts out (shouldn't be a problem, but you want to be sure).

    Ever figure out how to hook up the trigger for the amp to the Onkyo? I'm using the R1 for a Onkyo Dvd player. Can the Zone 2 be used?

    I've got amp coming and trying to plan ahead.

    Nope. I would think if you use the zone 2 trigger the side surrounds will be "off". I just do the finger thing to turn on the amp.

    I'm not familiar with these pieces but, does the amp have a trigger out? You may be able to daisy chain them. For example, AVR to amp, amp to cdp.

    Onkyo has their own type of trigger for Onkyo components only called RI but it does have a trigger for a "zone 2" amp but the manual indicates when the zone 2 is on the side surrounds are off.

    Well, there's always this neat little trick:
    Get a 12 volt wallwart adapter & plug it into the switched outlet on the back of the onkyo. On the DC end snip off whatever plug it comes with and solder on whatever style adapter you need for your amp. Works great and you can switch as many amps on as you need by just picking an adapter with enough mA to cover their summed draw.

    Hooked my new amp up today. I'm using the Zone 2 12V trigger out on my Onkyo to the amp with 1/8" to 1/8" mono cable with no problems. Just makes powering the AVR and the amp a 2 step process.

    Just hook your amp to the Zone 1 preouts as normal. While it's true that Zone 2 will on power 2 channels....Zone 1 will still operate as normal with the Zone 2 on. After powering the AVR, just hit the Zone 2 button then the "on" button on the remote.

    The wall wart is a nice option to keep in mind too. Especially if you actually plan on powering Zone 2 to run a couple speakers. ...I know I'm not.
