pre/pro questions

I'm looking for recommendations on preamp and processing. I'm not sure if I need entirely separate components - please advise me.

I recently bought a pair of LSi9's and an emotiva xpa-5 (5 x 200 at 8 ohms, all driven). Music listening is most important to me but I will be using this as a home theater system as well in the near future when I buy some rears.

There's no hard price range, just prices that make sense given the gear I've already purchased. (I want bang for my buck, but I'm willing to spend a little more if necessary.)

I know you guys get these questions a lot; I've read over many of the previous threads in this forum, but this issue is still confusing me. Should i be looking at a pre/pro combo, or separate components, or a standard receiver with a weaker power amp section.. I really appreciate all comments and advise!

    You already started down the separates path by purchasing a separate amplifier. Forget about a receiver. All you need now is a pre/pro and you've got yourself a helluva system. Strictly for matching purposes, consider a used Emotiva LMC-1 or MMC-1.

    Thanks for the response. Those emotiva's are processors only, correct? If I grab the MMC-1, I still need a preamp. Any recommendations?

    At the current price, the MMC-1 is hard to beat. And it would look good with the XPA-5.

    No. the MMC-1 is a pre-amp, it's all you need.

    Yup, get a matching pre/pro from Emotiva & you will have one rocking system. Congrats.

    Thanks for all the responses. There's a good chance then that I'll grab the mmc-1 to complete my system for now.

    Anyone have any bad experiences with this unit?
    Is brand matching really that important? Any compelling reasons to wait for the umc-1, or go for the outlaw 990 or something similar? Thanks everyone.

    Hey man I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about seperates first of all. From what I've heard the Emotiva combo's are the best "foot in the door" when it comes to entering the world of seperates a.k.a the way to go.

    EMO MMC-1 is a good bet. I have one and I am very pleased with it. EMOTIVA also provides a discount of 40% when you decide to upgrade your processor down the road.
