About buying this tv: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3291977&CatId=3650
I have a question. If I get this tv I am getting a ps3 for blu ray duty, and am wondering if I use the HDMI cable from the ps3 to the tv, will I be able to use the optical out on the tv to my receiver? I ask because with my friends dads tv he wasn't able to use the optical output on the tv to the receiver when HDMI was in use. So will I be able to?

    The TV says it has digital out, so it should work. I would assume that if you are feeding it a digital in, you should be able to pull a digital out.

    Thats what I hope, cause I don't really want to get a new receiver. I guess my friends tv is just weird, haha.

    It may work, but the TV will only send stereo PCM to the reciever, no DD, or DTS, etc.

    All the digital outputs on TV's that I have seen, will only put out Dolby Digital if tuned using the TV's tuner, other sources are output as stereo PCM.

    I don't think going from the TV optical to your receiver is a good idea, you're just adding more links to the chain. I have my ps3 hdmi out to samsung lnt5271f, and then use optical out from the ps3 again to my h/k avr 120. again just my opinion.

    Yeah saw that last night, forgot that the ps3 had a seperate optical out port, which the 360 does not. Can you guys help with picking out a tv? I thought I was dead set on the one already posted above(http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3291977&CatId=3650), but I found this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16889253092
    at a local store for $1299. They seem to offer the same amount of inputs/outputs, but the Toshiba has a larger screen size.

    I have a Toshiba 42HL67 (720p), and I really like it. But the 47HL167 is known to have a problem with a green tint to the picture (dark scenes) that can not be adjusted out. It is also last years model, and the price of $1299 is too high.

    Toshiba's new 1080p model is getting great reviews, and the retail price is lower, you should be able to get it for about the same price locally.

    I would probably side with the LG, i've read a lot of good things about their new line IMO. However, if you have a chance stop by your local Circuit city. They are just putting up their new line of Samsung 500/600 series, which means all of their others tv's might be coming down in price fast.

    I was lucky enough to stop by one night a couple of months ago, and found a steal on a Sam. 52" LCD LNT5271F for $1999.99 open box, not a scatch on it, perfect condition, manual, remote...:D It was retailing for $3899.99:eek:

    Take your time though, if you can hold out, i'd advise on an open box if it looks good, and add protection plan if needed, still comes out cheaper than new retail.

    oh yeah, what type of room is this going in? large, small, lots of windows (glare)?

    Its going in my bedroom which is maybe 30' x 15'. With 2 large windows on the wall where the tv may be going(in between). Both windows have shades/blinds which let in no light when closed.
