Walmart Offers Refund on HD DVD

Thought others might be interested in this. Walmart is offering a full refund on all HD DVD players sold since Nov. 1, 2007.

Wish I had seen this earlier myself. The article was published April 6, and I just sold my A2 and shipped it out yesterday for $60, about $50 in my pocket after shipping expenses.:o And I threw in two component cables.

No big deal really, I just thought it was funny the way it worked out.

    Mehh....I bought mine from there when they did the $98 deal which is no big loss. If anything, it's still a good upconverting player and can end up in another room some day. It's not the worst thing I've ever spent $100 on. :D

    Nice of them to offer it, though.

    This unloading HD DVD players for nearly nothing is probably a temporary thing. I also bought mine for $98, and I really like it! There are plenty of HD DVDs I don't yet have, so I will be buying those for some time. (We Are Marshall, I Am Legend) I agree that the player is a good upconverter. Quite good actually. I have a Denon upconverting regular player, and the Toshiba. Both of these are running through HDMI ouputs. I have a few movies that I have two copies of, so I auditioned, switching back and forth between the two.
    The Denon has a more colorful picture, maybe a little too colorful, but also has a little grainy look when compared to the same movie on the Toshiba. It is a matter of taste between the two, but there is a difference, and I do prefer the Toshiba.
    How does it do on audio? --I don't know, I haven't spent that much time with it to determine, but I think the Harman Kardon DVD22 (is that the right number?) is the best at CD audio.

    So, as with the way of the Beta, HD DVD may not be getting pumped out of the assembly plants anymore, but there are still many diehard fans out there, and still many movies we still don't own. Why not keep the player in use? Like I told my wife, it's not like the Toshiba stopped working, stopped having a beautiful picture and great sound, so like the Beta I think HD-DVD players will soon be fetching high prices on Ebay for those who want to collect a piece of Hi-Def A/V history.

    Well I don't buy movies, I rent them. HD DVD's never became available for rent in my area, and now they never will, so there was really no reason to keep the player.

    While it was a very good upscaler, I find my Marantz has a better picture on SD DVD's. As a bonus, I no longer have to wait over 30 seconds just for the tray to open so I can load a disc.

    The HDMi port died on my HD-A2. This is great news as I can return the player for a refund and purchase another one or maybe a blue ray as a replacement.... :)

    Has anyone returned their player? I called my local Walmart and they said that they didn't know anything about a refund for the dvd player.

    I went yesterday and returned mine. (HDMi quit working on the player so it lost all value to me as an upconverting player - else I would have kept it)

    Anyway - no questions asked. I gave them the player and the reciept (reciept required) and they gave me a full refund (about $106.xx in cash)

    I would just take it in. If the person you are dealing with does not know anything about it, just ask to speak to their manager.

    Thanks for the link William. I printed out the PFD and brought it with me, just in case. Had a copy of my receipt/upc code. No problems returning it. Maybe time to get an Oppo.:)
