I have a question about the 805

i have rti8's rti4's csi3 and fxi3'3 and the onkyo 805 and ran audyssey and bought a SPL from radioshack. I checked audyessy settings with the SPL and all read 75db like the manual says and i have to turn the volume up to +3 for music and 0 for movies. I keep reading people blogs with this receiver and all of them are saying im scared to turn it passed -10 because my house will fall apart. Is thier something wrong with my receiver? I use my toshiba HD-A3 for music CD's and Movies. I also have a zune player which i have to turn the receiver to +10 to hear music nicely. What is wrong with my set-up????:mad:

    I doubt that anything is wrong with your setup. Every source has a different output. Apparently, your Zune has really low output. Larger rooms will require you to crank things up too. I go past -10 all the time, just not when my wife is home. I've had it up to the + side with music before also.

    How do i know if there is clipping or i am damaging my speakers. I never turn it up where it sounds distorted but i am wondering if im drawing more than my receiver is giving

    I usually turn mine up to around -5 when I'm watching movies, and around -20 to -15 when watching Direct TV through it, I'm using an external amp but I figure that audyssey calibrates the levels in the same way it would if I weren't using the amp.

    WHen i turn it up to -5 or 0 it sounds clean no distortion at all. I just want to make sure before the 30 days is up or ill have to mail it to onkyo.

    And that opinion is based on what?

    Audyssey is a good place to start for those that don't want to or don't have all the setup equipment and it's a hell of a lot better than doing it by ear typically. Now, if a person HAS the setup stuff, you can always go back and verify measurements or make changes. It just gives you a good place to start from.

    At 0dB my RTi8's are just blasting. Way too loud for me. But it still sounds clear and very good. I use my PS3 for all audio output.

    For music, I usually have it at -25dB when other people are home.
    For movies, I set it to about -15 to -20dB. Again when I'm not alone.

    If I don't care about everyone else, I'll bump the volume up a bit.

    On most of todays AVR's,your heading into dangerous territory by turning that volume past "0".Distortion dontcha know.Nothing wrong with your system,enjoy it.

    My onkyo 805 with audyssey worked great. Everyones set-up is going to be different, I wouldn't worry about it as long as it sounds good.

    i would be nice if the onkyo had volume control for each input that way all the inputs would have the same volume
