Cable Music Channel Quality

I just switched out my old analog cable box for a digital one. Now there are about 50 music channels. Are these CD quality music or mp3 quality music?

The music sounds okay through the TV speakers. But when I hook up my LSi9's, they definitely sound different than when I play my CDs.

    My local cable music stations equal about a 128k MP3. Good for background music, that's all.

    I find that different stations have a different sound quality's? I wish they would all sound the same with excellent quality.:confused:

    Thanks guys for the info.

    I was really hoping that I can get CD quality sound from those music channels. I knew it was too good to be true.

    Oh well, I will continue to rely on my local library's CD collection then.:D

    Give them a listen... some of the channels seem to be pretty high quality on TWC NC. Others sound like crap. I've got it tied into my whole house system and it does great for background music.

    I've got Time Warner digital cable (all music only channels DD2.0) and have found audio quality varies incredibly based on source...
    To compensate I contstantly switch listening modes when channel surfing

    The TW jazz channels seem to have very good quality, but go to legacy rock - (or worse yet older R&B) and it's awful. Classical, Hip-Hop, current rock etc just varies album to album.

    I think this OFTEN has a great deal to do with quality and conditions of original recordings. My old Stones and R&B cds sound pretty awful even from the original CD. Whereas my Norah Jones cds sound fabulous.
    The older stuff actually sounds better on a poor sound system (like my $20 computer speakers). Stick a poor quality disc in my current mid-fi system and every flaw is magnified...

    Formula: mediocre/poor source convert analog-> digital > broadcast > yuch!
