What Receiver for my new rti series speakers

The amplifier power will not be an issue with your RTi4's.

I would advise against Onkyo with the RTi series, but that's just me. The RTi area already on the bright side of neutral as it is, and that Oink isn't going to help that any. With RTi, I'd definitely look at something with a more neutral sound like Denon or H/K - or the Outlaw Audio Cathy mentioned above.

I'm not a fan of Onkyo and, but that aside I really feel there are better matches with the RTi series.

I just received a marantz sr7002, and hooked it to my rti8's, csi5, and rti4's. I havent had a chance to calibrate it or watch a movie yet. But I can tell you it has plenty of power at 110wpc and makes sweet music right out of the box. I replaced a 90wpc denon (4 year old) which was overrated on power IMO. +1 on the Marantz 7002. I just set mine up today. I tried out a Denon 888 before going to the Marantz for my 2 RTi8s, 2 Rti4s, CSi3, and PSW10. The Denon combined with my speakers sounded a bit bright, and I couldn't get any oomph from the bass (no matter how much I boosted the bass end in the equalizer). The Denon sounded weak for music, but good for HT.

The Marantz definitely pushes out the bass. After running Audyssey and playing around with the equalizer (boosting the midrange and treble), I'm very pleased with the results for both music and HT.

I have the onkyo 805 with rti8s and csi3. I love it. But I also will eventually go seperates.
This is my first attempt at a ht so Im happy for now. The options on the onk 805 are GREAT! Im very happy with all that it does.. I have tried out hk 347, onkyo 605 and found the onk 805 to be the best by far of the three. The hk 347 might of sounded alittle better with bass, but it lacked ALOT in the user friendly side of it. Also it didnt have the new generation audio/video. And the remote was a headache! I love my 805!

I'm not sure how much advice I can offer since I've only tested 2 receivers. I can describe to you my thought process in choosing my receiver:

I narrowed down my choices based on reviews so I could be as efficient as possible with my time and energy. Yamahas were reportedly too bright. Onkyos had lip synch issues (fair or not, I figured even if my current components didn't suffer from lip synch issues, could this bug rear its ugly head in the future?). Sonys didn't have the greatest reputation. For me, that left the Denons, Marantzes, and Pioneer Elites. I wanted to stay under $1k, so I tried the Denon 888 first, and was disappointed with its musical reproduction, so I returned it. That basically left me in a bind. Either find a good deal (since the following are all MSRP'd well above $1k) on a Marantz, Pioneer Elite, or possibly the Denon 3808 hoping that its warmer, or wait until the next generation of AVRs in the fall (which would either produce more budget friendly receivers with hopefully warmer sound and more HDMI inputs, and/or would push the current models down in price, but would basically make leave me with 5 speakers and a sub and no sound for half a year ). Then I came across the deal 6ave had on the Marantz 7002 (under $1k shipped, no tax), and based on the positive reviews and the relative paucity of issues with the receiver, I decided to cross my fingers and take a chance (despite the not-so-great listed return policy). Turns out, the reviews I read about its warmth were accurate, and so far, I'm very pleased.

If I had to do it over again, a no brainer would be to search for a store with a good return policy (preferably local, and no restocking fee for an opened item) to test it out so I wouldn't be biting my nails when I plugged it in.

I have auditioned both the onkyo 605 and onkyo 705 in my home against RTi10's. To me, the sound was a little "blanketed". Then I auditioned the H/K AVR 347 and it seems that the sound was much more "lively" than what I heard on the onkyo's. This especially since the H/K was producing 70x2 compared to the onkyo 705 which produces 100 watts/ channel.

Best bet is basically what you want- its your money, so get what sounds the best to you!

Other than that, I have heard Denons are great, but havent tested them personally.

I just got an Adcom GFA 555 about a week ago. But had auditioned my H/K around Feb when I was comparing it to the Onkyo 605 and 705..
