I thought Vinyl was...OLD? I thought it went the way of the 8-track?

Now i'm hearing that it's better sound quality than CD?
I'm just so confused...

    Heh, this is a highly debated question. Personally, I think it comes down to a matter of choice. Worth trying around, but note that the most expensive turntable I've seen is north of 6 figures.

    CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Vinyl sounds great, no question. When audio tapes were the rage, I bought vinyl instead, and made the copy myself to a metal or hi-chrome tape. It always sounded better than the OEM tape version.

    Then CD came along. The skipping bothered me, but the sound was also very good, and unlike vinyl, a CD lasted forever. Well, thats what they said at the time. Now we know thats not exactly true. I've since moved all of the vinyl I had to tape, and all the tape I had to mp3.
    Do you hear that buzzing noise? :confused:

    here again. you can't compare vinyl to CD's. two different beasts. different mediums, different sound.

    is vinyl better than CD's? nope. it offers something CD's for the most part can't. warmth and a more realistic sounding to vocals, instruments, drums, piano.. etc. more analog, not digitized as with CD's.

    Vinyl isn't for everyone today.. with it being out of the mainstream home for about 25 yrs now.. it's become a audiophiles format for the most part. Sure people are rediscovering it in the past year or so. and it'll always be around, but you're not going to see your neighbor's going out to Wal Mart and buy a turntable or albums, that ain't never gonna happen.
