I just recently bought the Marantz 7002 and wanted to hear other people's opinion on it. As Marantz is a fairly unknown brand to me. I bought because of the deal that I got on it and the good words that I have heard about the company. Any comments?

congrats.. did you hook it up yet? What did the Marantz replace? Seems not many folks buy Marantz anymore. not sure why... but they are pretty beefy and great looking receivers.
let us know how it sounds once you have it up and running.

Marantz is nothing to be ashamed of, by far. Excellent recievers. Marantz went kinda mainstream (but so did everyone), but the quality is still there. When I was looking for an AVR it was between Marantz and HK. I went with HK, becuase, well.. I'm a fanboy.
But I realy like the brushed metal look of the Marantz, and they are one of the few manufacturs out there , that stay true to the testing.Monitor 7b's front

Let me know how it powers your speakers, mine are similar. I have rti8's,csi5 and rti4's in a 5.1 setup, and my sr7002 will be here Monday. I chose the 7002 over the 8002 thinking I would add an amp eventually anyway.

Well got everything hooked up and powered on last night and my intial thoughts are outstanding. Set-up was a breeze! I was able to watch just about half of Live Free and Die Hard before I had to crash but during the movie everything was coming across warm and vibrant! Great just Great!! As soon as I get home from work today I am going to continue tweking and will write more later. There are two types of people in the world, The Ones that do, and the ones that wish they had! Marantz is a very respectable company. As most know they are a part of D&M holdings which consists of Denon, Marantz, McIntosh and a few other brands. In regards to receivers...buying a Marantz vs. a Denon is kinda like buying a Lexus vs. a Toyota. Very similar quality, but the Marantz will have a few more features, and be a little more refined. Marantz seems to have a stronger focus on audio, as they offer a respectable line of hi-fi equipment including a re-badged Clearaudio Turntable, whereas Denon seems to be a little more video oriented with their Hi-end DVD players.
You've got a really good receiver there. Enjoy it!HT

I use my Marantz 8001 to control two zones with my home theater being powered by the Sunfire. The Marantz can seamlessly drive both zones with multiple sources (or the same source) both audio and video with ease. Great choice guys!My Main Gear

Until this morning, I had a Marantz SR-8001 that I was very happy with, until it made a "popping" sound and switched off. The stand by light started flashing rapidly and then there was a "burning smell" coming from it. It is only 5 months old, we were listening to the radio and the RTi10s were getting their feed from the Rotel RB-991, so even the internal amplifiers on the SR-8001 were not in operation.
I love Marantz equipment and believe this unit was a "Friday" build, because when we first received it, it was going into "Protect Mode" all the time. It was sent back and repaired under warranty, and all was good until this morning. At that stage, I still had my Yammie RX-V2700 that I could plug back in while repairs took place, but have since sold that unit.
Not to be unreasonable, I have asked the seller to replace this unit with a new SR-8002 as I don't feel comfortable getting this one back again after it's second repair in 5 months - it was brand new after all when we purchased it. I would also accept a SR-7002, as I too have further external amplification planned.
Anyway, it's Sunday here in Oz, so I'll await to see what is offered in return for this unit when we are back in business hours.Regards - Gaz from the land of Oz
