Who else still uses a VCR?

Just wondering if I'm the only one. I still record tv shows with it.

    I have a VCR in my garage I think. I cannot imagine using it for anything except a garage sale.

    I'm in my late 50's and a single full time father of a 7 year old. Bet your ... I still have VCR's in the house. Plenty of Disney movies, and animal flicks playing during his free time. I've actually got a couple of spares laying around. We go through one every 3 or 4 months.
    DVD's are too expensive for a kid that is rough on them. The VHS is cheap and plentiful in second hand stores, pawn shops, flea markets, etc.

    I've got one stashed in a corner behind the TV stand...just in case. I also have a TV tuner or capture card on the puter so I can't afford to throw it out.

    I use a VHS HiFi deck primarily for audio.

    We still own a bunch of commercial video tapes, and watch some on occasion. No reason to replace 'em just for the sake of "upgrading".

    I have 2 Mitsubishi S-VHS Hi Fi VCR's still. One in the living room and one in my bedroom. I still have a bunch of good ol' music video's, concerts, old movies, etc that I'll play once in awhile.

    I have a VCR in my system, but the only time its been used in the last couple years is to watch ultrasound tapes of my babies in utero.

    My wife has a buttload of VHS movies that she bought through college and I've been thinking of putting them on Craigslist as a lot just to get rid of them. We never watch them and have replaced most of them on DVD. VHS tapes just take up so much room.

    Still have 2 vcr's...probably just too lazy to unhook them, but of course as soon as I do the wife will want to play a home vhs movie from some xmas get together so I guess I'll leave them there. BUT, I finally took the dvr plunge and it's great!

    I'll answer the question before I attempt to hijack the thread: Yes I still use a VCR, mostly for kids movies which we have many of on VHS.

    Now to my question. Well, first a little background: My parents still get analog broadcasts via an outdoor antenna and watch them on an analog TV. They're in a rural area, no cable available, and thus far I've been unable to talk them into satellite because they're able to get everything they care to watch and they don't want the extra bill. My mom likes to record a show during the day while she's at work and her VCR is on its last legs. I'm debating whether to just replace it with another cheap VCR or get her a DVD recorder. They don't have any movies or anything on VHS, and they don't currently have a DVD player- but I think they need one. I found a Toshiba (somethingR -550) that has built-in digital and analog tuners that I can get for about $145. I'm thinking this would be a good "intermediate" component and still be usable after the DTV transition and when they eventually get a new TV. For recording, I would prefer a DVR, but can I get one that has built-in tuners that can be used for OTA analog? I think I could add a tuner or use the tuner in a VCR, but simple is important. How well do the DVD recorders work as a substitute for a VCR? Can I just get her some RW discs and she can use them over and over? Any thoughts?

    I have a couple still hooked up. Mitsubishi HiFI Stereo in the LR and A Panasonic HIFI Stereo in the home office.

    Like JCAUT, Mine are mostly for the nieces and nephews.

    And of course the old **** collection.ha, ha,

    jcaut, doesn't tivo make a tuner version? I will look it up and see. DVR is great.

    I looked around on the web and it looks like the TIVO DVR series 2 has a built in tuner and accepts OTA signals.

    Me too. After spending over $200 on a Sony Hifi Stereo VCR, I turned around and spent more on a GE dvd player. I think I still have it..

    I have one sitting in the basement that I just haven't gotten rid of yet. Gave my other to my grandma so that she could record her political shows on Sunday morning when she goes to church. :)

    No, she is used to a vcr, she knows how to operate a vcr. Unless you are going to be willing to stop by to keep track & program the dvr, get her another vcr.

    What YOU think they need & what they will actually use are usually 2 totally different things.

    I have't used a VCR since I got my PS2 about 7 years ago and started playing DVD's on it. It was to much of an improvment... I couldn't go back. Now its almost time to move on to blu-ray...
