Should I Swap Subs?

OK... so my current setup is this:

2 Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1's (10 inch SVC 350 watts rms each)

They are being powered by my Eclipse 34230 (370 w x 2 rms @ 4 ohm) My amp is not 2 ohm stable.

Now, I've seen a very nice Eclipse SW9122 that I am thinking about getting.

It is a Titanium 12 inch DVC w/ 750 w RMS

Specs:
Size: 12"
FS: 22 Hz
Qts: 0.30
DCR: 4ohm, 4ohm
Vas: 3.2 cuft
Xmas (1 way): 1.5"
RMS: 750 w
Max: 1500 w

The reason why I would like to get this is because both of my amps are Eclipse (XA4000 and 34230), I have an Eclipse CD7100, and 1 12" sub will take significantly less room than 2 10's. Having more trunk space is certainly nice.

However, it ultimately comes down to sound. Can one 12 inch compare to 2 10's? Regardless of how good it is. My car is not huge by any means. Infiniti G20t, but I really don't want to be dissapointed by doing something like this.

I can sell both of my subs w/ their box and the amp the eclipse comes up with to make the deal without really spending much. So any advice?

Thanks.

PS: Funny thing I've been thinking about making a thread like this to swap my ALpine SPX177r's for some SR6500's.... but that's another story.

Hard to say if a single 12 will outperform dual 10's. It depends on the box, the subs and the power. From what youve got listed, Id say you get a 1000 watt amp on the Eclipse 12 and it would probably do a little better than a pair of 10's getting 370 each but it wont be by a ton. Infinity makes pretty sorry speakers but their subs are pretty solid and 740 RMS is pretty solid power as well so the setup you have now is pretty good.

    Thanks.

I wouldn't really change the amp. Is 740 rms for a 750 sub not enough?

I just think that if the sound is comparable, and I can have a smaller box w/ more trunk space it would be worth it.

It feels like a gamble though.

Just a guess going by what I know and have heard from both brands of subs - with the same amp, youd lose a little output going with the Eclipse but the sound would be better.

    OK...

So I ended up going a complete different route.

I got 2 MM2124's, so saving trunk space is out of the question. The website says .88 ft^3 per sub. This seems pretty small for a 12 inch sub. Now I just gotta go find one that's that small.

The box that they're on is more than 1.5 feet^3 per sub, so I should def switch to a smaller box?

Now I wish my amp had a little more power, as 370 is short of their recommended RMS.

Oh well, we'll see how it sounds.
