Need More power...My Receiver Sucks!

OK so I've come to realize that my Yamaha HTR-5750 Just can't power my set up AT ALL! It was ok at first when I had just the A5's and Using one A1 for a center but now that I have the A6 and the whole set up in 5.1 it's bogged down bad. It basically powers the A6 ok but all other speakers are pretty dead.

I know this is a really bad thing to have going on here so I have been keeping the volumes down.

Heres the thing, I have 0 cash. In fact these speakers aren't even paid for yet. so I need to find a cheap receiver to get me buy till the summer. I'm not willing to wait. I need something to tie me over. The sound is just too bad.

I'm willing to go with out HDMI switching for now. I'm thinking HK 630. Would this have enough power to get my speakers talking at least?

Any suggestions?

Secondary -Music

Thanks in Advance!

Millerman has a HK 635 for $325 + shipping. I have one, and it's more than adequate.

Do you have preouts? Even a 2 channel $200 used amp would take some strain off the receiver and open things up.

Are all the speakers set to small and calibrated properly? The velo should handle all the low frequencies so the Yammie shouldn't be too bogged down.

I think you should look into the Pioneer Elite vsx94txh receiver. It's a beautiful receiver with plenty of power and nice matching sound quality for the speakers you own. Not to mention have all the current processing and 4 1.3a hdmi switching/processing with Sacd and DVD audio processing via HDMI. Allday.

I couldn't agree more. That is the exact receiver I plan to buy this summer. Just can't afford it right now.

No preouts. Everything is set to small, Xover is at 80hz for all speakers, velo takes the rest. Yamaha brightness all day.....makes my ears bleed. I turned the treble down -4 but I find that helps a bit but sound quality is slightly compromised.

getting a better used receiver is a great idea till you can afford the one you want... even if the used receiver doesn't have all the bells and whistles.. they can be had usually for a good bargain.

Wow... nice find. I think when I upgrade to amp/s I'm just gonna get the one 5 channel amp though. I'd like to get a B&K or a Parasound. Not gonna waste time fooling around once I go that route. Can't wait! What are your thoughts on that?
    Thanks again

seems like a good one, I really like my Marantz MA700, they are sweet amps.
don't be fooled by the monoblock and the 125w on the Ma500

Hmm...I'll keep that in mind. Maybe I don't need to have the surrounds amped. They should have plenty of power from the avr if it's a 635 or a elite 94. It Should be a cheaper route to go too.

The brightness, harshness, lack of med and bass from my receiver really makes me sad. I just bought all these speakers and I know they don't sound anything like they can or should.

See I bought a little Polk set (RM6500 with P303 I think) like 5 years ago and Future Shop had this receiver packaged with it. I asked them when I bought it if I could upgrade the receiver and just pay the diff. Of course not. ****.....

I went form a yamaha rxv540 to my HK 335 big difference , then I added the amps bigger better difference.

Oh and maybe you could sell your receiver, take what you can get for it to help fund you new one or some amps.

Does your Hk 635 have the software upgrade? If so what does it do? Doesn't say on the HK web site...at least that I could find.

You can upgrade the software using the RS232 port or whatever. They have firmware available online. You can even control the receiver while it's hooked up to your computer, which is kind of cool. . . but also kind of pointless. Mic for calibration is a great tool, I think the firmware improved the EZEQ or something. There's like a 70 page thread on AVS forum for all the info you could ever want.

I did it the first month I owned the receiver to make sure it was current, or current enough. I've never had an issue with anything so haven't bothered to upgrade it again.

Andrew Mac - if you're buying the HK 635, I think you've made a very wise choice.

Mauskar - there are plenty of decent stereo amps for $200. I've seen some B&K st-140s, some Adcom 535/545, etc. for those types of prices. Carver tfm-15cbs can be had for that amount as well, or even 2 TFM-6cbs (which were my first power amps).

Bikerboy has a good price on his st-202. I bought one for $370 shipped a couple years ago and that was a pretty decent deal in my mind.

I vote for the HK AVR 635. Don't be fooled by the rather conservative 75 rms/ch rating...the 635 can put out 50 amps of instantaneous high-current amplification!. It is the hi-current that really shines for H/T and gaming systems. The Pioneer Elite’s may have more HP but they lack the serious torque of the H/K’s.

I have both an AVR 635 and a Pioneer Elite the 635 has the best sound by far.

    lakesailor,

While I don't disagree that the HK sounds full and has heft I was curious. 35 amps of current; that's alot. Do you have any idea how much wattage that would be too a speaker at 8 ohms? The math doesn't add up. But it's a great sounding receiver.

PS. My Krell might put out 10 amps of power at full dynamic range. I noticed you stated the HK can output 50. Most interesting.
