Older amp. Basic setup questions for a n00b.

Got a Kenwood KA-770 D amp for free along with a Kenwood 5 disc cd changer.

Questions regarding the amp and hookup:
1: is it worth running the amp for my fronts over my Yammaha HTR-6090
(the amp is minimum 80 wpc rms, under 8 ohm load with no more than .055% THD)

2: The amp has bass and treble knobs broken off, does running the amp with the "straight line" button pushed in bypass these knobs anyways?

3: Will straight line bypass the volume knob as well.


I am wondering if I am better off just using the Yammaha receiver and saving the kenwood stuff for a future 2 channel setup in the garage or something.

    If it were me, I'd check the amp out first,if you have not done so,,in other words,hook it up to something that won't be missed should something bad happen. Good luck.

    Did that already. My boss threw it in the trash bin during major house renovations. I gave him **** and dug around for it. Always worked for him and after getting the snow off it and letting it dry, seems to work 100 % other than the 2 knobs being busted off.

    One thing about hooking up an amp is that it takes some load off of the receiver. The best thing to do is try it out, and let your ears be the judge. Also Amps are usually designed for better performance than receivers.

    I'd consider it for other use, I would hate to hear you plugged that thing in your main rig and something went haywire. Free is a good thing, but not always the best route in some cases. Go ahead and snag up a used pair/BStock Outlaw M2200s or M200s monoblocks, and call it a day.

    I will be looking for something else to spend money on in that mindset down the road. As per an earlier thread of mine in the speakers forum, I am finished.... for now! :D I really am quite happy right now and am thinking of running this amp at the shop or my buddies garage (my mechanical playground) to see how it does as far as destroying things. But with the very real possibility of all going well, I am considering plugging into my main deal at home after I start to get used to the present sound I have.
