SONY (ES) Warranty - Information

I recently had my ever reliable Sony SCD-C555ES develop a display problem that needs repair.

Anyways, I wanted to post briefly about the benefits of Sony ES warranty, as mine ends 07/03/2008. The timing couldn't have been sweeter.

KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS!

Usually failures occur in the first year but you never really know and when a manufacturer backs up their product, even better. Polk and Sony ES, for example, back their product with a 5 year warranty. It really does pay to step out of the box and look into ES gear, as the generic Sony carries a one(1) year warranty in most cases. The ES product is worth the money, before and after the sale.

That's a statement to the quality of the product in my book and Polk, in particular, has been known to go above and beyond even that! How could that not make you feel good?

Back on subject....here are some links for you Sony fans:

SONY DAPC - Direct Accesories and Parts Center - You can pick up OEM remotes for older gear, manuals and a limited parts selection. The dealer section contains a larger database for widgets and particulars.

SONY eSupport - Electronics - This is where you can start a repair order for your Sony product(s), warranty or non-warranty. Just click on the "Repair Service" icon and follow the steps.

You have the option of course to take it to an authorized Sony repair facility in your area. I know all of them in the DC area, and I wouldn't ask them to repair an alarm clock. YMMV but I'd rather have the main office fix my stuff.

If you're covered by the warranty, it will tell you but you can create a "Event ID" for your repair regardless of coverage.

They also offer discounted, UPS Ground shipping to the repair hub in Laredo, Texas. The label MUST be charged to a Credit Card before creation and regardless of being used, your CC will be charged. I'm a corporate shipper and the rate isn't bad at all.

I guess I'll have to make do with a hmmmmm, in the interim......who knows what I might dig up :D

Happy Listening!
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I was EXTREEMLY pleased with Sony when my DVP-9000 has a drawer issue. It was under warranty and repaired quite quickly.

The tech even hand wrote a little note about the problem and what has been changed to prevent it from happening again along with a compliment on my disc that was removed.

Nice :) Thanks for the post HiPerf360.

I've sent a few pieces over the years to Laredo and the service is solid. I never received a personal note...... :(

We don't see much Sony gear go bad. Now that Denon is gone, we don't see much repairs.

I'm still a fan, just not of everything in the current ES lineup.

The 5 year warranty is the main reason I bought the SCD-C333ES. It was 1st releasted in 2000-2001, but I still have warranty coverage for a couple years because I bought it as a store demo model from an authorized dealer, that was in 2005. I haven't tested the warranty yet, but I'm thinking about sending it in soon because the flip down cover doesn't close all the way. I will probably take mine to the local place, because they are a very well equipped repair facility that is listed at the regional service center for just about every major company. I've taken a couple things to them in the past and service has been good.

My entire system is Sony ES and Polk.

Their limited production stuff is really well made.

I'm especially impressed by these pieces in my collection:

    STR-DA9000ES receiver
    STR-DA777ES receiver
    TC-WA9ES Dual Well cassette

All of them overbuilt inside and out.

I love my Sony V555ES receiver.

I am actually looking for another ES receiver for my game room. Or get an upgrade and move the V555ES to the gameroom.

I love my Polks and Sony ES.

Sony ES gear is good stuff. The C2000ES was just okay, but my previously owned C222ES and DVP-S9000ES epitomized build quality and reliability. Couldn't imagine those things breaking down or wearing out within 5 years.

The Sony (non ES) integrated amp from my first system, from 1987, is still in operation today. My mom cranks it doing karaoke.

I gave away a complete Sony ES system last year to a coworker. Integrated Amp, FM tuner, cassette deck & CD player are all close to 25 yrs. old and still kicking. Plus a pair of Klipsch KG-4's that have gone through 3 horns over the years.(horns were always replaced FOC.)

At any rate. When I upgraded my stuff, a ES receiver was the logical choice for me.

Good to hear it worked out for you, should something go wrong with my 7100ES AVR at least I know it will be taken care of, then again Im in Japan, I'd have them make me a new one on the spot. Good info though. Agreed the ES line is good stuff, my AVR is a tank.

I just sold a Sony ESD8CDP i got for $15, for an older 18bit player, it was quite impressive sounding.. within it's range.. it was probably the best sounding 18 bit player I've ever owned. the highs were just a tad to brite and forward though. other than that it was near mint looking and the rosewood sides were a nice touch too look at.

It's on the way back home, repaired. That's always good to hear as the word "unrepairable" isn't.

Always keep a backup player handy....unfortunately, I didn't time things very well.

The ES is long lasting. I just hooked up a seldom used, but 15 year old CDP-601ES CD changer. You think the lights would fail after 15 years.

The unit is home ready to be put in the closet for a rainy day.

The same part that failed in 2005, was exactly what was replaced this round. They tightened the loading door and factory spec'd it.

    882013203 - Device, Optical

Note from 2005 "Replaced the defective laser traverse mech assy."

I also requested new packaging or suitable OEM replacement and received it packed in a brand new, double wall box with plenty of protection. Since I bought it open box, with no box, this was a nice free goodie.
