LSi9, LSiC, LC65i with Onkyo TX-SR805
Hi,
My home theater is currently setup with this configuration:
Onkyo TX-SR805 Receiver
LSi9 - Front
LSiC - Center
LC65i - Surrond
Boston Accoustics Subwoofer
My Question is:
Can the Onkyo Receiver effeciently drive these 4ohm speakers? Or do you suggest adding an amplifier (maybe an Outlaw 7125 or 7500 or something)? Will the amplifier make a difference?
Also, which amplifiers would you suggest in the 1000-1500 price range.
Thanks!

Amps can make a fairly big difference with those speakers BUT that Oink is pretty damn beefy to begin with. I should have mine in a few days with the same setup and I can run any of my 4 amps with them and check the difference.
FWIW (before all the "more power is better" folks come along), my LSI9's sound best on a 35W amp so don't let anyone tell you you have to have more power...There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin -

The specs only list 6 ohms at 160W with 2 channels driven.

I have LSi15s, LSiC, and four LC65i inwalls being run on a 7x300 @ 4ohms Emotiva MPS-1 Amp. Sounds PHENOMINAL!
Check out Emotiva.com. The IPS-1 7 channel amp is a great deal, and very nice sounding. The MPS-2 is a bit out of your price range. Even the very inexpensive LPS-1 is rated at 225 watts per channel at 4 ohms, and sounds very good.
BTW, I am running my setup with an Integra 9.8 pre/pro."People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." George Orwell -
I would guess based on the info below - it should drive the LSi's pretty well. (not that an amp won't drive them better, but a good chance that other upgrades to you system for the same dollar amount - may yeild as much or more performance increases.)
here are the actual amounts...
8 ohm load
173 Watts (AVR switch in 6 ohm speaker mode)
87 Watts (AVR switch in 4 ohm speaker mode)
4 ohm load
270 Watts* (AVR switch in 6 ohm speaker mode)
151 Watts (AVR switch in 4 ohm speaker mode)
MichaelMains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
