I just bought a $hit load of these transistors. I know they fit Adcom GFA-585's for sure, and I think many more. Let me know if you need some. I will be beta matching these to sell as sets.
Thanks Ben

    Thanks Ben

I assume these are equivalents to the originals since they have long been out of production. The last supply (of originals) on earth were bought up by Adcom many years ago.

I had/have been following your saga over at DIYAudio and I assume these were the equivalents (model #) given to you by Anatech, K-amps, Echo Wars and others as suitable replacements? :)

How much for a closely matched pair/set?

They are the originals that came from an Adcom service center that went out of buisiness. I happened onto a whole bunch of them. I have spoken with Chris, and I am hooking him up with some for all the help that he has provided me. He is definetely a great guy. They are the factory sealed Toshiba 2SD424 & 2SB554 transistors:D:D:D With mounting screws, and insulators:D:D:D

Not to thread jack, but yes he (Chris) is and if he wasn't in Canada I would have sent him my Adcoms to be refreshed and checked out without hesitation. But, the duty and postage and the opportunity for damage is far to great.

Are they in T03 type metal cans? Hold onto to some for me as I need to check my Adcoms and see what they take. I wasn't aware there would ever be a chance to happen upon the originals. Never hurts to have some spares :D:D

No problem. They are the metal cans:) I have lots of them:D, and yes if Chris was here he would have had my GFA-585 too:)

I think Parasound used these too.

What about the GFA555 (your old one)?
Would these be of any use to me?
    Just wondering.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Ben, at this point I have to pass as my Adcoms don't use a T03 type trannies. If these fit the 585 I'm guessing they will also fit the 565 mono's an perhaps the 5800. Beyond that I'm not sure they are compatible with the 555 or 555II. I know they won't fit the 545 or 545II or 535 or 535II and the rest of the later models 5xxx all use MosFets.

In nekkid photo's I have of Adcom 555 and 555II it does appear the 555 and 555II use a T03 style tranny. Can't make out the # so someone will have to physically look in their unit or see the schematic.

    Hi Stephen,

I can't really answer that question. I don't have a reverse parts to
    product look up.
I do know the GFA-555 and GFA-555 II uses them. I have never heard a
question like that! Why do you ask?

Ben, I would also assume if your 585 uses them then the 565's would as well since they are essentially the mono version of the 585 design. The 5800 probably uses them as well. As shown in the schematic and parts list I posted for the 555 it seems they were interchangeable with another part # too.

Good to have on hand as a matched set if you need them. Unless you do something really stupid tranny's usually don't fail. The problem is these ORIGINAL Toshiba's have been discontinued for years. In the Adcom design, and any design worth it's salt, the tranny's are very carefully matched to each other in order to keep things sounding good (linear).

Getting matched sets of the same type and from the same general run is always the best way to go. Many times even if (1) tranny is blown they are replaced as pairs or the entire channel.

#1 stupid thing is allowing the speaker cables to touch each other when the amp is powered up. Sometimes it just blows the fuse and other times it takes out the fuse and some tranny's. As long as one is absolutely careful when doing things like that.

#2 thing is a lightening strike which takes components out. Either have a heavy duty surge protector or do as I do when it calls for storms or is storming I unplug everything. :)

Yeah like letting your speaker terminals touch each other because you didn't power down your amp, or hook up your custom SDA Blade blade the wrong way:o

On my 585 I have to replace the whole string of them with beta matched transistors. 5 each to replace one blown. So I blew one on one channel, and one on the other. So I shall be replacing 10 transistors:( Luckily our friend Chris (you know who I am talking about) is helping me with the beta matching, and I am going to give him a donation for all he has done:) Excellent Man he is.
