first TT

the cables on the TT are only 2 or 3 feet long so i could not put the TT where i wanted so for now it sits on top of my pre. what is the best place to put it?Payton
get yourself a pair of these RCA couplers.. it allows you to use another pair of interconnects on your turntable.. and it will give you a much longer cable. so you can move your TT where ever you like.
It's best to keep it away from any amp and certainly away from your speakers. try and place it so it's not stacked on anything.. namely a pre amp.

It sounds like the sub-platter may be out of true. I had this happen once before with an MMF-2.1. What happens is when they press the center steel post through the hard plastic sub-platter it goes through slightly crooked.
The easiest way to verify this is to turn on the table, and without any record on it just lean down and look along the bottom edge of the steel platter. If it appears that the platter is moving closer and farther from the table on each revolution then you probably have a bum sub-platter.
If this is the case just contact Stephen at Quest for Sound and tell him the situation. He will most likely put you in contact with Leland at Music Hall and they will just send you a replacement sub-platter. Free of charge of course.
Keep us posted!
the bottom edge of the platter definitely moves up and down every time it goes around. ill call Stephen and see what happens.Polk monitor 10B's and 5 jr's

Yes, please do. This is bad.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

Hold on. Do you have the platter/spindle with the threads up?~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

OMG! On a bad LP. DO NOT do this with one you want to listen too. lol.Mount the TT on the wall with brackets or wire. All floors move up and down. The walls also move up and down but much less. Do this test jump up and down near the TT not rotating and see if the arm moves when on the LP.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. im sure the arm will move. our house is about 100 years old and the whole house moves if anyone jumps anywhere or a door is shut.
by keeping the TT away from the speaker is it ok to put it on the wall behind the speaker?
what threads?
all i did was take out the red screws it said to, put the platter on the spindle/sub platter, and adjust the counter weight.Polk monitor 10B's and 5 jr's

I also lived in a old house with a TT. I think any solid wall will work much better than mounting on the floor with a table. -
Hey Sophie, I was referring to the spindle/platter assembly. If your's is like my MMF-5 you can flip the spindle/platter assembly upside down and vise-versa. Make sure that the threads are located up and that the non-threaded side is down inserted into the bearing assembly and give it a whirl.what threads?~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. I think he's picturing a center spindle with threads for a record clamp. The MMF-2.1 doesn't have a threaded spindle. That is something you find on the MMF-5 and up.HT

Just had another thought.
Just to confirm it is the sub-platter and not the platter itself try this:
First lift the platter off of the table and place it face down (without mat) on a known flat surface. Then check for any gaps around the edge, or see if it teeters at all. It should lay completely flat.
Second turn on the table without the platter on it, and see if you can spot the top edge of the sub-platter moving up and down at all. It might be a little tough to see, but there should not be any vertical movement.HT
