My neighbors wife has decided it's time to upgrade that old worn out sony HT Receiver and she has know me scence they moved in so I am in charge of finding the new one. After researching for over a mounth I have came down to two choices. The Yamaha RX-V3800 or Onkyo TSXR805. He has Klipsch fronts and bose in rear. going to be upgrading soon so let me know if anyone has used either of these. Thank You "What A Lucky Guy He Is To Have A Wife That Cares"

    Well lol no I have done most of there stereo wiring not to mention the car audio systems so they trust my opinion.

    I have not heard yamaha for many a year, but many say they are on the bright side of things... May not be the best match with Klipsch.

    I would go Harmon Kardon or NAD - both more on the laid back side of things. (I know - not your question)....

    I would go H/K too. Onkyo 2nd choice.

    They do not have the milti room "3 rooms more" that the yamaha and onkyo does the ones that do are more expensive. Sticking with my first 2 choices.

    I would go Denon, tone down those horns a little. Allot of people feel Klipsch are bright, not sure what speaker model he's using. Denon or Pioneer Elite.

    I haven't used the Onkyo 805, but I am currently using its little brother, the 705... and I'm blown away. Audyssey MultEQ XT does a fantastic job of room correction with my Polk/SVS setup, it can decode any format you throw at it (including the new lossless formats), and I'm just generally pleased with the sound.

    The receiver itself, without equalization, is very neutral, which some may mistake for a lack of mid-bass. I like the sound because it doesn't color the audio in any way, at least to my ears (i.e. doesn't sound inherently warm - just accurate), but it has serious authority in the low end for music and movies. Audyssey ought to tame the brightness of those Klipsch speakers nicely, since MultEQ XT on the 705/805 uses a slight rolloff on the high end to aid with reflected sound (and the work Audyssey does in the time domain helps ensure that you're hearing first impulse sound more than reflected).

    My only caveat is that Denon receivers with MultEQ XT let you select the target EQ curve (i.e. flat, Audyssey's custom curve, or to match all other speakers to mains). Onkyos are locked to Audyssey's custom curve that rolls off the highs slightly, only going to flat mode when THX modes are in use (so there's not cascading of the high-end rolloff of each system). It's a minor quibble, and I don't think it's a dealbreaker for you, considering you're pairing it up with Klipsch speakers.

    LMAO So you are probably woundering why in the world I am Pulling up this old post. Well I finaly want to tell you that they got the Onkyo. They couldnt be happier. As a matter of fact two days after he got it I was at the house connecting everything. So we got done that night and calibrated the system, and I left the next day I get a phone call from my neighbors the messages they left me was " I want to thank you for choising this great reciever I can actualy hear things that I was never able to hear before. Plus I don't have to turn it up that much because everything comes in clearer. You need to come over and hear this" One thing about me you only have to ask once I was over there as soon as I was done work. WOW THE CLARITY. I thought to myslef when I heard it WOW. The Klipsch Belle's Sound Great. So now he has on the back portch a very nice set of Polk Atrium 60's that have a nice rich sound that fills the back patio. Out in the garadge he has his old Sony Reciever using the zone 3 pre-outputs to 4 Klipsch bookshelf speakers. So as I type this I am actualy sitting on there back portch "because there away on vacation and someone needs to watch the audio system I me 'um the dogs" So everytime they go away I get a whole bunch of movies togethere and sit down for a great movie night with fullfilling sound. So I want to take this time to thank the people here that helped me choose the onkyo it was the best choice. Thank You Guys

    I second that, I upgraded from an old Yamaha HTR-5730 receiver and I now have the Onkyo 606 and the Onkyo's sound is just so much more detailed, it also has a lot more power.
