tube help...please

After selling my Mullards, I get this e-mail

Please help me respond quickly, as I do not know the answer

Hi Robert,

The tubes arrived safely. I am new to tube rolling (still have my Naim
solid state chrome bumper). Are the Mullard 6sn7gt a direct
substitute for the domestic 6sn7. or are the Mullard 6sn7gt really a ecc33? I
don't want to stick the tubes in my amp and kill my amp.

    Robert, why don't you direct him to the manufacturer and then NO mistakes are made. You may have to humble yourself a little, but things will be set right. Just my opinion.

    I`m not worried about looking stupid, as it`s kinda evident, and I told him I was a newbie myself... I just know that some folks here would know what to tell him..

    I would agree that a call to the amp manufacturer by the new owner is in order so he can be sure, and to avoid a potential problem for yourself (I'm guessing the new owner was referring to a piece of Naim gear that is something other than the amp he's concerned about now). The Mullard 6SN7GT are not always a direct replacement for circuits that use 6SN7 tubes (maximum plate voltage dependent). Chances are if they're not compatible, he'll want to return them to you.

    What amp is Art running? The key is the voltage the circuit is putting on the plate. If it's 300v or less, no problems.

    It's probably going to be fine, most designs using a 6SN7 run it class A at 250v.

    I'd also like to add that the ECC33 is NOT a replacement for the 6SN7GT, the ECC32 is a variant, but not a direct replacement.
