Hello,

Can somebody tell me what you feel is the closest match in polk speaker line up to Axiom M50 and QS4 with respect to max audio output ? I am asking this question because I was suggested the Axiom Epic50-350 by one of the audio specialists and unfortunately Axiom is not available at my place but fortunately the polk is. I really dont wont to buy something which will under power my room and I am planning to drive the speakers with an Onkyo 605.

The sensitivity of RTi8 is around 89db and for Axiom M50 its around 93db. I think this is going to make the power requirement for Rti8 almost double that of M50 to produce the equal amount of SPL, is it true ? And if so will it make a huge difference in filling my room with good sound while driven with a Onkyo 605 ? Axiom Epic50-350 was suggested as the minimum requirement considering the volume of my room.

Keep in mind, efficiency has nothing to do with quality. 89dB is still a very efficient design.

Yes, I do realize that polk systems are engineered to perfection and 89dB is quite good. But my concern here is will a 90W RMS system be good enough to drive and create the same SPLs and thereby the HT experience as 93db Axioms driven by the same amplifier (I think the power requirement doubles for polk to create the same SPL as Axioms? I have seen in many threads that 150-200w speakers needs good amount of power to sound good and create the SPLs as required. Thanks.

Seeing as you are, at most, using 10 W/channel, I'd say you're fine.

Perhaps most of you have already seen this, but I thought it to be a very frank admission of bias on the part of at least one tester of equipment. After some 20 years I had been recently looking for some good floorstands for music. I read a lot of reviews from stereophile etc. (on line) and I noticed that (1) they used amp. sources I could never afford (2) they had conclusions that didn't mean a hill of beans to me like "I found the mids to be a little clearer". In the end as I did 20 years ago I just picked something that many people seemed to agree on, would suit my budget and would mesh with what I already have. I keep wondering though if all reviewers did blind testing, what would they really recommend?

(This is just a comment, not intending to stir up a discussion)
