Found!!!! I am happy to say that I finally found a pair of 1.2's near St. Louis,MO. I drove to Decatur Illinois to check them out today and of course they sounded great. Grille cloths are in very good condition. End caps are is good condition. The only flaw was a small nick at the rear of the right top end cap. Looks like 1 tweeter in the left speaker was replaced and 2 tweeters in the right speaker. The seller told me they were 1.2 TL's but I am not convinced of that. The stickers on the back say SRS 1.2. After this post I will refer to previous posts to find out ways to indentify which type it is. Speakers have the pin/blade interconnect cable and the owners manual. I went ahead and purchased the speakers for $1800. However, not knowing whether they were 1.2 TL's or not, I'm hoping that I didn't overpay for an unknown model. BTW, I listened to the 2.3's that he has for sale (again not sure if they are TL's or not) and the speakers are in very good condition and sound as good as you would expect. I will post pics of the 1.2's later.

Shoot us a pic and we can tell you real quick which ones they are. Pull a tweeter or two out and see if it says SL2000 or SL3000. The TL's have the 3000's. Also, on the crossover plate on the front, the 1.2's will have 13 screws whereas the 1.2TL's have 9 IIRC.

Just checked the crossover plate and it has 9 screws. When I was at the sellers house today, I asked him to remove the replacement tweeter to see if it was a 2000 or 3000. Unfortunately, the tweeter has no markings on it whatsoever. I'm gonna go back downstairs and pull one of the original tweeters to see which one it is. BRB.

So what do the 3 replacement tweeters look like? Are they a black soft dome tweeter? If so, that's possibly the new replacement tweeters as the SL2000's and 3000's aren't available "new" anymore. You'll see them sometime on Ebay, though.

I would like to get the original SL 3000's back into these speakers. I wonder if anyone in the forum would like to trade for the replacements that I currently have? Thanks for your input BTW, I really appreciate it.

Based on the photo's which it's hard to tell, but it looks like you have a mixture of original sl3000's and the new RD0's. Hopefully they are the RD0198-1's and not 194-1's. The sl3000 was a good improvement over the sl2000, but the silk RD0's are even nicer. Your choice however.

Some non-TL's must also have the 9 screw version of the crossover plate. Mine are 1.2's (SL2000's) but have the 9 screw version.

No, Believe me You do not want the original tweeters. You should buy (8) brand new RD0198-1's from Polk. Put them in. Sell off the 3000's and save the other 198's that are in there now as spares.

The new Tweeters perform much better than the old ones.

    Sal

Actually, he'd only need 5! :D IF they are the RD0-198's that are already in them.

Take out the 3 RD0 tweeters and check out the terminals. If they are 198's, then the positive terminal will be smaller than the negative. The 194's have the same size terminals on them plus BOTH RD0's typically have the positive terminal painted red. IIRC...

My 3.1 TLls were very clearly was marked 3.1 TL on the back. There was no mistaking it. Since the TL's are a 1991 oddity only... it seems odd to me that Polk made a 1.2TL without identifying it as such.

The TL's were made from 1989 to 1991. Polk still had a bunch of 1.2 and 2.3 labels to use up, so some of the early 1.2TL's and 2.3 TL's have the prior version labels. My 1989 1.2 TL's are labeled "SRS 1.2" followed by the serial number. 3.1 TL's didn't have a prior version so they escaped the SDA "hand-me-down" syndrome.

The hand-me-down syndrome also extended to owners manuals. My 1.2 TL manual is actually a 1.2/2.3 manual which has an "addendum" insert with specs and drawings of the 1.2TL and 2.3TL.

I asked the sellers about the tweeters looking different. They sent a responce saying that they were all TL's. I wouldn't have been happy with mixed up tweeters. I want to start out with all original drivers and then decide for myself if I want the replacements. Polk put a lot into developing those tweeters. I can't believe they would sound bad.

Gary... The SL3000's don't sound bad at all. But, the silk replacement tweeters sound better. I've had both. I've owned both. And, I prefer the new silk replacements over the original. Now, the SL2500... it sounded awful to my ears.

I pulled the RDO's and they are RDO-198's. The positive terminal is smaller than the negative. A bit of bad news.... a gasket is missing on one of the tweeters.

I'm sure you're right. I put the RDO's in my SDA 1's and it was an improvement. (LESS BRIGHT)
