Olevia TVs

I recently bought two Olevia (series 2) 32" and 37" 720p TVs. The CC sale prices and my budget had a lot to do with my choice.

I'm totally happy with the pics compared to the 12" and 27" RCA crt TVs that both "died" on me within three weeks of each other in June.

Other than the remote not working too well past 15' which I'd read about before buying them, has anyone heard anything about this brand (good or bad)? No complaints here yet.

For the most part they are pretty decent for the dollar. I would steer old people/technologically challenged people away from them though. They have a showroom mode that they ship in, which disables some functions and some people have trouble disengaging, and also the owners manual is on a cd-rom disc rather than a regular paper manual. I have down countless Q&A sessions with the old farts who can't figure it out. Not fun.

i returned a 232t just yesterday the high definition is just "ok" its impossible to get it looking perfect and standard definiton viewing? forget it its pure crap i even hooked up an hd cable box via hdmi and it seemed to make it worse! i say steer clear of this brand.. after all like the guy above me said.. it doesn't even come with a set of paper instructions! thats pretty sad really ill gladly pay the extra 2 bucks for a hard copy!

My two are working OK with HD. One I'm routing through a Denon amp using HDMI. Maybe you got a bad set...or...I got lucky. :rolleyes:

I was sick when my son got and set up my first one for me. I got "caught" on the 32" one though. When I went to set it up I thought I had a bad unit because it wouldn't power up. My son turned on a small switch (undocumented) in the back and it's worked fine since then.

I printed out my manual.

I wouldn't doubt it. It seems like every other week I visit Walmart there's another Vizio on a cart waiting to be picked up. I wonder it they're *that* good for the dollar or it's name recognition that's selling it. Olevia hasn't been out long enough to be benchmarked I guess and Vizio has been out for quite awhile.

I've been using a their 26" LCD as a computer monitor/TV for about a year now, and I have nothing serious at all to report against them. Bang for the buck especially, they do what they claim to do pretty well.

I run it at 720p for use with my computer, and while I haven't checked out a hi-def movie in a stand alone player yet, playing 720p clips and playing it via my computer looks stellar.

Then again, I have no real frame of reference.

My only real complaint with them is the horrid OSD menu. Seriously, a monkey with a crayon could have designed a better one.

About a year now? That's good to hear!

I know my DVD's look great to me. Like you though, I have no frame of reference either. I've never "studied" another HDTV. My son, who has a eye for this stuff, was tempted to get one for himself after I bought my first one.

I thought it was a good one but then, again, not point of reference here. I've never seen another one before. I figured they were all text based.

Thanks for the link and review. Like I said, the only complaint I have is the same as other reviews I've read, I wish it was a bit better responsive to the remote control commands.

I really like the straight forward menu for adjusting picture and various settings. The price was really unbeatable. I guess the cd manual was the worst part. Haven't really needed the manual though, and I use a $25 sony learning universal remote.

From what I've heard... Olevia is a Chinese National company. Funny how the "Made in America" tag means even less.

That's good to hear. I use "rabbit ears" and the pics are really good. I get more two more channels when we have cloud cover.

I started with the RM-AV2000 when it first came out and about eight months ago upgraded to the RM-AV2500 after reading the reviews on the newer ones on remotecentral.com. They have great reviews on a lot of remote controls!
