Does anyone have one of the vintage SL2000's? The clear polymer domes? Does anyone know if there is any real difference between the vintage and new tweeters?
Thanks

    tazbo,

    Welcome to the forum.

Polk says that they sound the same or real close, I don't want to have to find out. Here is a link for the original one on eBay, he's got two of them, but I want one unless you're desperate for both.
    Let me know.

I just need one. And I agree with you, I don't want to have to find out. He has two?
    I'll take a look.
    Thanks

    tazbo,

We have a unoffical rule here, when someone says they are going to bid on something, out of respect, others don't bid on the same item. That's why I asked you if you needed one or two, because if you needed both, I would have backed off.
How do you thank me??? Instead of letting me (the guy who gave you the link) bid on the open one, you bid on it.....jeez!

I have two of the clear polymers (one is supposed to be blown but I haven't verified), two of the MW6502s and a Polk5jr crossover that I'm looking to sell. I don't know if the tweeters are SL2000, 1500 or 1000 but they are the ones with the silver faceplates.

    hatchm,

Look on the back of the tweeter, it should tell you what series it is.

They don't, just that they are for the 5jrs so it could be either depending on the year. My circa '86 Jrs (I was buying these drivers and crossover to build a center channel for them) have the black faced version.

I probably should have built the center or two matching surround speakers but I found a CS245i for the center and my wife wouldn't like 5jr size surrounds hanging on the walls. I'm looking at the polk in-wall or in-ceiling speakers for that duty.

I'll try to post a picture tonight when I get home.

    F1nut,

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to step on any toes. I just put in a bid kind of quickly and didn't think about it...I guess I should have looked at the other one first.
For what it's worth, I bid the minimum $29. I'll back off and bid on the other if that's OK. Just let me know.
    Again, sorry.

    tazbo,

No, you keep your bid on the one. I know you need it and I just want one for a spare. I'll bid on the other one and if I get it, fine, if not, fine. I'm sorry to have jumped on you like that, must have been in a bad mood.
Good luck with the auction and I hope you'll stick around here.

    Cheers,

The reason I need a replacement tweeter is that mine has a crease in it. It still functions, but it's quieter...less bright.
I tried to push it out, but it didn't work. If I could get behind it and push from the back side it would probably work.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    tazbo,

    I hope this helps,

I think you should still bid on the one. If you fix your damaged tweeter, you can keep the other one for a spare.

    F1nut,

Damn, you're a wealth of knowledge.
I actually gave the vacuum idea VERY brief thought. Maybe I'll give it a shot. Especially if I have a backup.
Now, how did you get one to smoke!?!?! (maybe that's why you need spares)

    tazbo,

    Always glad to help.

I have not smoked any of mine, but have seen it done. I have heard stories of flames shooting out of a tweeter before, but I've not seen that.
You can try to pop the crease out with your fingers, it won't hurt to touch the tweeter.

    F1nut,

I tried a little to push it out, but not much. I'll probably try again. I wonder how much you can mess with it before it cracks or something. It doesn't look like you can separate the magnet from the back without doing some damage.
