I was high bid on eBay for a pair of F/Xi50 today, but I failed to meet what was apparently a ridiculously high Reserve Price. So nobody won the auction.

Still looking for either F/Xi50 or f/x500i. If I score a pair on eBay, I'll post here.

Yes, they are rather large. I bought four of them last month. They were brand new. They still have the warranty cards and manuals. I've got two hanging on the side walls using the supplied mounting brackets. Pretty easy setup, drill two holes with the included screws and you're done. The other two were supposed to hang down from the ceiling in the back of the room. I got one up and got an immediate thumbs down from the wife.

The speakers are black. I don't have a digital camera, but like I said they're a month old and in mint condition. If it's an issue I can take some pics and scan them. Here's my email: w_howard@yahoo.com.

Scott - is there any real interest on your end? I've seen the 1000i go for somewhat less, but these do sound in premium condition. Might warrant the price. If not, I'll continue to pursue the 500/50 acquisition route.

I'm in Dallas. My screen name is somewhat misleading. I'm really kind of bummed. My whole 7.1 setup went down the tubes. Polk doesn't really have any in walls with directional drivers. The wife said just go get some of those "great sounding Bose" speakers. Now how many times do I have to tell you honey, they don't have the trilaminate dome tweeter! Hellllloooo!??:rolleyes:

wallstreet - many recommend direct radiating speaks in the back for 6.1 / 7.1. It gives a more stable rear sound stage, just like in the front. The bi-pole / di-pole speaks are the ones you want on the sides, usually in dipole mode - for a more diffuse sound field.

I'm sure you could find a direct radiating tri-lam rear speaker like the CS245i or the CS400i for the rear surrounds.

Still waiting for Scott to chime in here on his intentions. I could actually fit the 1000i in my room.........

I wonder how close Rooster lives to you. Maybe he can scope them out for me.

Also, can they be mounted directly on drywall (i.e., no stud) if I use those expanding metal anchors in the holes? The spot I am considering is actually the hollow of a cold air return and I can discretely run speaker wire up inside of it. There is no stud there, obviously. I think the drywall will take it with the right anchors.

I think I'm going to have to go with an in wall (ceiling). The way the media room is setup it looks a tacky when you walk in and the first thing you see is the back of a speaker. I might try to find some old AB trilams in stock somewhere. I had some ab755's in my last house, but they'll have some trouble keeping up with the 1000's. I don't even have a 7.1 receiver yet so no big hurry. I just wanted to pick some new 1000's up before they were all gone.

Shouldn't be a problem with mounting on drywall. The speakers are about 25# each. Each speaker has two mounting plates so you can spread the load across two sheetrock screws.

Of course the 1000's are worth more than $350, and no one here wants any fellow Polkster to take a bath. For me personally, it becomes a cost/benefit ratio issue. Scott might value them more than I do for his room.

You might be able to sell them for $450-$500 on eBay or Audiogon. The tri-lam line seems to be falling out of favor as old hat and the silk dome and Vifa stuff is selling hotter. That doesn't help guys like us with tri-lam set-ups. Hell, I can't find any f/x500i any more anywhere, except at close to retail!

Like a I said, a pair just went on Audiogon for $450. I do know your's are NIB condition - you might be able to squeeze a bit more out of them for that. How much did you pay for them?

Yep, that's a nice price. I bought mine in December (2002). I bought them from electroline(http://electroline4u.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/polkaudiofx1000.html) in factory sealed boxes. As the link indicates I paid $754 for each pair. And as I mentioned earlier, I'm only running 5.1 right now. So two of the speakers have never been used (although I did open the box to verify the product wasn't damaged. The warranty cards and manuals are still sealed. I'm not a big eBay fan, so if I don't sell them here, I'll just keep them. At $600, I'm out $154. How about $575 and I'll pick up the shipping? If you don't like them, ship them back and I'll refund your money. I'm also north of Dallas. Where does Russ live?

I was just knocking. At double the price of my fx500's - it was a no brainer. The size of the fx1000 give quite the WOW factor.
No way people are coming even close to getting there $ back on these puppies. The shipping alone would KILL ya.
If I was going to upgrade I would get the LSi F/X on the "ebay" market. At half the size the LSi F/X would be just as good or better than the fx1000. Even with out the Timber match - I think I could live with that for now. But I am broke **** now. And I have to buy my new Gil Hibben knife in the next week.

Mounting the 50/500/1000 to drywall. IMHO No freaking way man. You have to have a stud. But then again mine are on custom brackets that extend out about four inches.

if i dident just start my sub upgrade project i would be all over thoes 1000 caues i could sell a set of my 500 to dr and get some cash back. but i still have to shell out for my amp and black box. just wish this came up befor my sub project.

that is cool dr. spec. i thought you wanted the 500 so i was thinking of ways to help you out. i was actuley thinking of getting a set of 1000 to add to my 500 when i went from 6.1 to 7.1 and i was recomended to stay with the 500 so that is what i got olny took me a month to get them. had to order them on line. and that was when polk just started their new line.

Hey Doc and anyone else who cares...

If the mounting weight concerns you because you can't tap into a stud, the easy fix is to first mount wood on the wall and then mount the speakers to the wood. Isn't as ugly or obtrusive as it may sound... the piece of wood doesn't have to be THAT large, half-inch thick is plenty, only large enough to catch the mounting plate on the speaker, paint it, and mount it to the drywall with 4-6 screws/anchors. Then, mount the speakers to the wood.

I had to mount one of my M2s that way in my shop because, even though it isn't that heavy, the weight was pulling too much on the anchors in the drywall (granted I didn't use heavy duty anchors). And pulled-out anchors leave some nasty-big holes.

If aesthetics aren't that important, for added strength run the wood across two studs and mount the speaker wherever along the wood. You can hang yourself off that set-up...

Agreed - already considered that and it's a great idea. Distrubuting the load among several anchor points on a thin wooden plate gets the job done. The HD metal anchors that actually expand and lock behind the wall as they are being tighted will each individually support much more than a single f/x1000 weighs.

I haven't seen the Polk mounting plate, but it's also possible that additional holes could be drilled into it at strategic locations too.

FWIW, I made wallstreet an offer earlier today and I'm waiting for his response on the 1000's. I can fit them in my HT room and their size does not bother me.

If he accepts, I'll post pics when I'm done with this upgrade to "6.1+". I'll have two rear direct radiating speaks running off one split pre-out signal and a separate 2-channel amp, and discrete side surrounds in dipole mode running off the A/V receiver. It'll be killer for HT. Gold Jerry, gold!

For some reason my reply email keeps bouncing. Basically the email said:
I was mulling over whether to just hang one fx1000 in the middle of the back wall. That would meet the 6.1 specs as the back surrounds are mono anyways. But then that leaves me with one fx1000 left over and $1500 for one Polk speaker is a little steep! Sooo, let's make a deal. As soon as I hear from Russ, I'll get the demo setup. I think I'm going to buy another center speaker and use it for a 6.1 setup. I'll build a small shelf to put it on in the back of the room. There might be a small timbre mismatch between the back surround and side surrounds, but by the time the sound hits the front it should be seamless. Or I might go ceiling mounted 7.1. Decisions, decisions, decisions. I'll have to check with Goinggonzo to see the compelling reason to go from 6.1 to 7.1.
BTW, If you want to mount into the ceiling, I've got a pair of Omnimount 60CA's which will look really cool. These mount to the ceiling to the back of the speaker. You can aim them anyway you want. I can still return these for a full refund, so all I can save you is shipping costs.

So you accepted my offer? I didn't hear from you but our own email was down for a few hours today. If you accept, I can mail Russ or you a check and after it clears, you can ship the speaks to me.

I'll be wired for 7.1 but running in 6.1 because my receiver only decodes 6.1 DD. But it can make a phantom rear signal on 5.1 stuff if I tell it to.

the reason i wennt from 6.1 to 7.1 is caues my room aka ht was merged with the game room behind it in the basement. so i took the pre outs of the onkyo 787 and ran them to a 2 chanel amp. actuley 6.1 and 7.1 dd are the same sigonal. the rear 2 chanels play off of a mono sigonal just like the pld prologic suround did.
