Using old monitors as surrounds?

One of my RTA11Ts that I've been using for my surrounds in my 5.1 setup just gave up the ghost... and I haven't been real thrilled with the performance anyway as of late.

So I'm unsure what I should replace them with.

I have an extra pair of Monitor 5b, as well as Monitor 7s, and Monitor 10s.

The 5bs would be the easiest to deal with from a size perspective. Anyone using them for rear surrounds? I assume I would want to change my receiver setting from "Large" to "Small" using the 5bs?

My front mains are SDA SRS 1.2s.

Thanks.

I have 10Bs as fronts, 7's as my surrounds in 5.1 with a 5 as the center. I have them all as large since they all produce decent bass and that is all my small/large system set up is based upon. I am very happy with my sound, but I am far from the pickiest guy on the board. I did have 5s before I moved the 7s in, but I also had totally different equipment with them so I can't compare.

5jr+ set to large and 4" from the rear wall. Sal, try adjusting the output level through your receiver or use pre-out and a seperate amp. 5's can play up to around a 100 watts clearly with a high current amp.

I have had no problem using 7s for rears. My 5 as center gets pushed a little when I am really cranking something and so I throttle back. When I tried to use a 5jr+ as center, it was just a little different in tone/timbre and noticeable. Even when I did test tone, it sounded different from 10s and 7s. That could be unique to my system.

I've used Monitor 11's as rear/surrounds in my smaller 5.1 system with SDA 2B's and RTA-12C's as front/mains. Sounded great. Only reason I changed was the acquisition of two pair of RTA-8T's which gave me a smaller gear footprint in the room.

I use a set of RT800i's as surrounds with exceptional results!
