Grabbed a few from itunes, want to burn a regular audio cd - winamp doesn't seem to want to do anything with these files.....
I just need to output them to wav and burn.

Russ

Aah Russs, odd to find you in this predicament of dealing with these dirty little file types.;) The Mp4s I believe are protected Apple files so most software won't (can't) touch these as they are protected Apple files.
You can probably find a freeware program that will strip the DRM from these files. The windows media version is called fairuse4WM. (Do a search) I'm sure there is an apple file version of the same program that will strip out the DRM and allow you to convert to a different file type though I'm not familiar with this software.
I've done my best to strip all drm and convert to mp3 for easier use for all 200g of my music. Good luck as generally speaking DRM is a PITA!
Be glad to help if I can do anything more. Feel free to pm me.

Ok, you waste a cd (or two, three, whatever) - but in iTunes preferences / advanced / burning, change the output to 'Audio CD'.
Create a playlist of the songs you want un-f'd, and burn an audio cd. Then rip em back (I use Winamp) to mp3, wav, whatever you want.
Round about method, but works, and no other 3rd party software needed to convert.

iTunes is a pretty decent program. Just dont buy songs from iTunes music store and you are good. Almost 90% of the songs that you buy online have DRM in it, the only exception being eMusic which sells its songs DRM free.madmax wrote:I-tunes huh? Sounds like a good thing to I-gnore.

This process works but degrades the sound quality further as lose some detail on m4p to wav conversion and then loose some more when wav is converted back to mp3.RuSsMaN wrote:Ok, you waste a cd (or two, three, whatever) - but in iTunes preferences / advanced / burning, change the output to 'Audio CD'.

I'm not looking for mp3's for quality or critical listening, but they suffice for background music throughout the house and what not.
BTW, I didn't notice any degredation ripping them to an audio cd.

I upgraded to this last week. little did I know that ALL of the music that I purchased & downloaded over the last 2 yrs will now no longer play on my pc. Message said they wouldn't play because of a security issue & to download this fix. Nothing happened.
Fortunately I had already copied them to cd! So word to the wise either keep WM10 or copy everything over to cd's before you upgrade!Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -

Considering what blank CDs cost nowadays (read : nothing) I've been using RuSsMaN's method of removing DRM for a while (for the few songs I actually buy from iTMS). It beats trying to hunt down and install some pirate program. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
-
I run mp3s to my Denon thru my network via WMP. Since WMP will not recognize iTunes files, I had to burn the play list as Russ described. Unfortunately, I found a big difference between a
.mp4 file ripped to .wav and then back to .mp3
and
Original CD ripped to .mp3 with LAME.
Now if I could just figure out how to play .flac files thru WMA I would be in business. As cheap as music goes on Amazon these days, I will no longer buy from iTunes.
