LSi rear and surround back setup

Is it critical that the rear speakers and surround back are same height? Here's the situation I have LSi 15s, center, 9s, and LSiFXs (on order). When the FX arrive I was thinking of using them as surround backs about 12 feet off the ground, but keeping the 9s on stands as rears. Or should I go vice versa with fx as rears and 9s as back? I'm looking for suggestions. Does anyone else have this setup?

You'll get better results by placing the FX's on the sides (Surrounds) slightly behind your listening position ansnd using the 9's as rear speakers. I don't think you'll like the effect if you keep the 9's low, the sound field will be localized and will greatly detract from movies and multichannel music. Build or buy some sturdy shelves and get those speakers at least 2-3ft above your ear level (when seated). You can also check out WWW.Dolby.com for really great info on proper placement.

Frank Z, I understand what you're saying, do you know if in that type of setup, will bipole yield better results than dipole?

I prefer bipole on my FX's, nice dispersion and zero localization.

12 feet mounted I believe is alittle high.6 feet is perfect word,I have mounted rear speakers up to 82 inches with good results.Any higher and you'll lose some of the effect.
Mounting all rears the same height In my opnion is perfect world.The movement is seemless.Get rid of the stands and go all wall mounted.Dan
