I will start off by saying that I have been a huge x-men fan since the 80's. I put up with the first movie (even though it was really pretty bad), the second movie I thought was really good - close to excellent.
With X-men III I had pretty high hopes but I cannot help but think the writers were getting in the way of the special effects people, so the writers had to go.
The special effects (both audio and video) were very well done and I enjoyed them alot. The characters were getting used to their roles and they did a very good job (although nightcrawler was missed with no explanation given). The story as a whole was a good premise that was very poorly executed.
The Dark Phoenix saga was wasted as almost a sub plot to this movie. I cannot help but think how much better the movie could have been if they had saved Phoenix as its own movie series and not wasted the character in this movie.
I would rate this one as a solid C+ to B-. Not a waste of film, but certainly a movie that did not live up to its potential.

I thought all 3 movies were very good! All 3 movies gave you something to think about if you were paying attention to the story as well as the special effects.
Ian Mcallum & Patrick Stewart got to do some serious scenary chewing in #3.

I enjoyed the 3 movies alot but ,being an X-MEN fan, I thought they could have gone another route with the story in the 3rd movie. It has to be hard though. There is alot of detail to the x-men stories. I don't remember Scott Summers dieing in the comix though.Michael

Just watched the DVD. The sound was excellent. I would love to see them put this out on HD DVD. As far as the film, I really enjoyed it. I thought the house scene was terrific and the sound from the bridge scene had me on the edge of my seat. Not a dull moment for me.Sharp Elite 70

Can't comment on the sound, however, the movie was rather entertaining. Although, too many new characters, so little time. And what's up with some of the deleted scenes? They were amazing, although small, and should have fit right in..well, some of them anyway.
Aside from how some characters were too different from the comic portrayals, because of real life actor shortcomings.. come on.. the Juggs... The Juggernaut... was about the same size as other peeps? He should've been CG..and should've taken up most of the screen on almost all shots except far and away. Bigger than the Hulk..and fists reaching to his lower legs. Justice was not done to the comic, on his part.
Nitpicky?..Unstoppable!!!

I agree 100% that they screwed up Juggs big time. He is not even a mutant, and could have squashed all of them. I am however glad that they did not go CG with him like they did in the Hulk movie. Juggernaut is officially 6'10", 900 lbs. Hulk is 7', 1000lbs. pretty close. They should have used a bigger actor, and whats with the English accent? Xaviers stepbrother? They should have left the original director do this one.
Venom -
Ha, the actor who played Juggernaut just has an English accent, it wasn't a script thing. He was also in Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and he was Sphynx in "Gone in 60 Seconds".If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
-
They should have used the tricks that they use on Hagred in the Harry potter series to make Juggernaut look bigger. I dont think CGI would have worked at all.

Only those of you who were/are into the comics would know those details. For the rest of us it is a great series of movies that are fun, & make you think about some very important issues that are relevant today.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

Much like most movies made from books. The fans of the book will be dissapointed about facts that change or story lines that are left out. Those who have not read the book will just like the movie (or not) based on its merits as a movie.cfrizz wrote:Only those of you who were/are into the comics would know those details. I actually saw a bit of the Hulk & I thought that the CGI of the hulk was terrible & jarring & took me out of the movie.
I'd much rather them use live people even if they have to scale it back some rather than plop some phony looking graphic in there!Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -
Actually, the moive represents the comic book quite well, as to the Hulk. He is much larger then any person, therefore a person could not play the role. The TV show was exactly opposite of what the Hulk was, per the comic book. The Hulk is one of my favorite comic book moives, much more so then X-Men, Spiderman...etc. It was a well done film that held fairly true to the comic book.I actually saw a bit of the Hulk & I thought that the CGI of the hulk was terrible & jarring & took me out of the movie.

A person couldn't have played the role, but they coudl have done SOMETHING better. The CGI in the Hulk movie was distractingly awful. It was like watching "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", cartoon meets reality, except it was supposed to all be reality.
Filmmakers have to understand the limits of their technology and work within those bounds. Hulk was a collossal flop because Ang Lee couldnt' do that.
But then again, the movie had Jennifer Connelly, so all is forgiven
If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
Just when I thought I was the only one that actually liked the hulk. Yeah, Brian Singer (the director of XMen I&II) didn't help by leaving to do Superman. This was a pretty interesting movie, aside from Juggs being awful (that guy is type-cast as a big, brutish London thug for a reason). Also, who the hell came up with his helmet? Looked like someone covered some paper-mache with reynold's aluminum foil; I doubt that thing could bash through walls much less stop teles from reading/altering his mind. I also don't remember him throwing out witty one-liners, just an ****-beater with strength to spare.
Kelsey Grammar was anothering "interesting" person to cast in this film. I would rather they went with some little known actors that fit the part better instead of finding big names to play all these parts.
For the most part, though, a good film, and very entertaining.Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand

(This is the part that I look like a comic geek)........Juggs got his power from the helmet that was from aliens. He didn't wear the helmet to protect his head. Still it was a good movie. I like all the Marvel movies though. And ya, the HULK was a great movie and I wish they would make part two but I doubt they will. That movie didn't make the money they like, just like Fantastic Four.Michael

But, Fantastic Four 2 is coming.just like Fantastic Four.
The CGI was intended to look the way it does, like a comic book. So many comicbook movies miss the mark and make them too reality driven, X-Men and Batman Begins being perfect examples. If your going to make a comicbook movie, make it look like a comicbook (movie). The CGI in the Hulk movie was distractingly awful.If...

Juggs got his power from the Cytorak gem. After getting his power, he tossed the stone into space. Later on it was merged inside him until Onslaught ripped it out.

LOL, Actually I have not read a comic for about 10 years. Juggernaut just happans to be my favorite character and I knew a bit about him. Usually when someone says Juggs, I visit the Tasteful Babe thread for research...

Once he chunked the gem into outer space, the power remained within the crimson bands of cytorak, and as long as the gem was never touched by anyone else, he would always have the power. The helmet is mystic as well, and protects him from Charles Xaviers mind powers. Except that the Roger Rabbit movie was a good/consistent blend/look, whereas there's the Hulk thing looks like it's the Pentium 1 of the Dual Core era. It was the same with the Mummy movie where the Scorpion ruined the movie. Way too $hitty looking effect to watch and try to maintain focus on the overall movie.bobman1235 wrote:A person couldn't have played the role, but they coudl have done SOMETHING better.
