silly problem

ok, I get a slight hum from all my speakers which remains the same at any volume level, but it only happens when I turn my dvd player on. It can be disconnected from the reciever and 2 feet away on a seperate circuit and i still get the hum. I can only hear it with my head near the speakers, but it bugs me. Seems like it might be EMI, but i cant figure out how to isolate it, But it isent grounded as it has a 2 prong plug. Would grounding help and if yes how would i go about doing so.
dvd player: samsung DVD-HD850
receiver: Denon avr5700
center: polk cs400
fronts: polk rt800i
surrounds: Unknown Polk monitor? series.
sub: svs pb12 isd/v
tv: 46 inch samsung

    Hmmm.....often times with cable service there are ground loop issues. I'm not really sure what else to tell you, but I'm sure someone here can help.

    Maybe a PS Audio UPC-200 Hum Buster would do the trick.

    I don't know for sure what you're problem is and don't know if the PS Audio unit would solve your problem, it was just a suggestion.

    As for the unit you have now, it's a generic surge protector and not something I would use for audio gear as it may restrict current.

    Anyone else here that can help this guy out???

    where is your DVD player located? near your receiver? The laser pick up can cause hum to come thru your speakers. I am saying your Samsung DVD player may not be very well isolated.. causing it to somehow interfere with your receiver or speakers.


    How do you have your DVD player connected to your receiver? OPtical or coax cable or RCA's?

    are your speaker wires near power cords? this can cause some hum too.

    Its connected with optical, but they hum even when its disconected. It sits about 1.5 feet away. I just checked it and I think its definatly laser or something because it dosent do it with no disc in.

    This is an old-fashioned fix that guitar players used to use, before grounded plugs: turn the plug over (180 degrees) in the outlet -- don't know if it'll work, but it might. LoL

    ...or get the DVD's power from a different house circuit...

    ... or, strangely enough this can work, plug the DVD into one of the receiver's 110 V outlets.
