    Crazy,

I own the Metallica S&M DVD too and have done reviews on it; it sure does sound good for a concert, but even in its "discrete" Dolby 5.1 mode on the disc(s) I still dont think it warrants "demo" material -- demo material should be REALLY REALLY special stuff that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up -- titles like U571, The Haunting, War of the Worlds, the Hatian crackhouse shootout in Bad Boys II....these are good examples of "wowing" effects for home theater.

I agree with you on that.

So what about talor made Surround Demo Disks? I read that there are a few demo discs floating around amongst members of this forum. Any ideas where one could get a demo disc - to wow guests :)

Are there any good DEMO DVD's out there?

Yes, I heard so but how or where can I get a copy?

Like for example the DTS Demo Disc #10 - how can I get a copy? I guess eBay is an option.h

I just played demo disk #9 last night. It had a clip from Master and Commander, it blows the dvd out of the water (pun intended).
Like for example the DTS Demo Disc #10 - how can I get a copy?
#10 is going upwards of $60 on ebay.
    If...

What made it so different from the original DVD?

As only having Pro Logic II on my receiver, not PLIIx, I always wondered how in fact that system can be used on DIGITAL signals like DTS...you can in fact override a DTS signal on the receiver with PLIIx and engage it INSTEAD of straight up DTS?

it doesn't override DTS, it just makes DTS um... better. Think BASF.

    I can't explain it.

I know you are cemented in "I can't explain it," and that's perfectly okay, but how exactly does it make DTS "better;" in other words, what is being enganged that enhances the DTS signal? Is it like adding a graphic EQ to a surround system, which I have been dying to do for ages?

I have seen this page before and read it thoroughly; I cant, still, find any reference to Pro Logic IIx in there...

You know what bothers me more? How are they doing those tests with Star Trek First Contact and the like at the end of the article and switching between Dolby Digital and analog processing like Pro Logic II? Are they stopping inbetween and switching out the connections to analog RCAs?

Nice Rocky IV reference there too....

it doesn't matter about the analog RCA's. You can put DPL IIX on top of any 5.1 or 6.1 source, digital or analog connects- doesn't matter.

    It expands a Dolby 5.1, Dolby 5.1 EX, DTS 5.1, DTS-ES matrix 5.1, and DTS-ES discrete 6.1 soundtrack into a discrete 20hz-20khz 7.1 system.

Well thats what I wanted to know....what EXACTLY IIx DOES....it expands these 5.1 sources into a 7.1 arrangement; all the hoopla surrounding this was confusing, even from my PR people at Dolby and Digital Theater Systems....also, I was referring to the site's review of the Star Trek title using PRO LOGIC II and possibly swapping out RCAs and DIGITAL connections, not IIX...

I used to have a six speaker setup and used DDEX and DTSes but took it down because there only a handful of 6.1 and no 7.1 movies out there. I don't want the reciever matrix the two back speakers. doesn't sound right( for my ears)

I did the same thing tommyboy. I did not like the way my pre/pro matrixed the speakers with 5.1 material so I wired it back to a 5.1 set-up. To be honest, even with 6.1 encoded material the difference was not a big deal.

I still run all the speakers, I use "Y" splitters off the pre/pro and run that to the amps so I can use the additional speakers. Works and sounds great.

Indeed....I have a six-channel decoder/amp (receiver) that is DTS ES and DD EX capable, but I dont run the sixth speaker because of room setup and software availability. Gladiator must sound awesome with the sixth channel in DTS ES though.....

Heck yeah! Every DTS movie sounds great with that 6th channel. I have tried it both ways, and I can cut off the surround back from the Onkyo. Big difference in sound. My room is long (23ft), and the 6th channel is always on.

Interesting Landry....my room is huge, too, with some 15 feet from the TV/audio gear stack to the sweet spot, and I still havent found the need for that sixth channel; my room and specifications are not ideal, though...my surrounds are up in the cathedral ceiling, nine feet above the sweet spot, so adding a sixth channel somewhere would be difficult, as the couch is against the wall...

Oh, now I see. My seating is in the middle of the HT room, and the only reason I can use the 6th channel is because this room is mine to do whatever I want to do. (Evil Laugh) Buhuhuhuhahahaha! She doesn't care what I do, as long as I stay in my room, and out of her living room and dining room. :D
It wouldn't make sense to use it, because it will go over your head anyway.
