Interest Check!?!

    Just my .02....

I agree that the interest checks, in general are a bad idea. Post it for sale in the manner Russman suggested. If people are 'interested' at your price then sell it. If they are not, either take it to another venue, lower the price or don't sell. SIMPLE. Dipping your toe in to test the waters, really isn't fair to anyone. I've been the victim of someone having sellers remorse and it blows as I obligated to sell gear to make room for said gear and felt morally obligated to hold up my end of the deal. I also disagree to the extent that there are a plethora of avenues in which one can reasonably estimate the value of the gear for sale. It may well have sentimental value or whatever but the market will bear what the market will bear.

Also, I'm going to address the whole 'senior member' issue as well. There are a number of 'senior members' now, right, wrong or indifferent, it is what it is. I think that for the most part, the 'senior members' steer things pretty well, ESPECIALLY in the Fleam Market. We manage to run a pretty decent one, IMO. Now, nobody expects anyone to kneel down and pucker up to someone else based on the amount of posts but there ARE a number of folks that have invested a lot of time, energy and, yes, money to this forum.

    Need a few examples?

Polkfest. The cost of those has been borne by the senior members and they ain't cheap in terms of time and money.

Flea Market? Just a cursory search ought to tell you that the senior members pass on some HELACIOUS deals. Now not to single anyone out, but the person who 'suggested' that another senior member left and came back just to line his pockets can, politely, blow it out his ****. THAT senior member CONSISTENTLY offers deals that no one else could touch. I'm not even going to get in to the 'freebies' that the senior members have passed on or the generous E-Z payment options to those short on cash. In short, those considered 'senior members' as opposed to 'post whores' (you know who you are as well), IMO, do rate a little bit of leeway because they have put a lot in to the forum. Think about it.

Now, could the 'senior members' be a bit more diplomatic from time to time? Sure. However, consider that what some folks post is under the microscope far more than others because, hey, when I log on, there are certain people, I look through a thread to see what they have to say while many posts, I ignore completely. I'm probably not alone there either. However, I think that the general effort to dispatch trolls is harsh but effective. I think that it's rare that we've run off a well meaning newbie. Is it intimdating to start posting here? Probably, but I don't think any more so than any other internet forum.

Another instance, just for what's ifs, occured at polkfest. A relative newcomer, a CA chap no less, shows up with no real place to stay. Three 'senior members' ensured that he had a place to sleep, a good meal (both at no cost to him) and sent him on his merry way with a pair of kick **** speakers at a HUGE savings. The 'senior member' primarily resposible was none other than F1.

To me it's a non-issue. It's an interest check, show interest, or move on. I don't get what the heartache is about...? Just like new people offering something up for sale, everybody jumps all over them---we're all educated, relatively smart people, look at the persons post count and decide for yourself if your interested or want to take the risk, again, non-issue.

It's funny how I've noticed that when a new person offers an awesome deal, nobody complains...double-standard maybe??

I don't know what's going on, but alot of people have been on a short fuse lately. Give it a break...

Voice your opinion by either not showing interest in the thread, or showing interest. Right? If you don't like the way a business conducts itself, then you don't patronize the bussiness, correct? Same thing applies here. The shallow a-holes that only come for the quick sale will get the hint and leave anyway, when there is no response to their thread.

    I agree in general Steve...

I just feel compelled to point out that some folks seem to be getting static based on thier number of posts which I think is BS as well. Agree or disagree and leave it at that.

    Ok, Cliff...

First, I'm going to defend my friends. Mark and Russ (not that they need it) both of them have hosted Polkfests. Opened thier homes to complete strangers. BOTH have consistently offered deals on gear that would have sold for FAR greater profits on other sites. Both have done a plethora of favors for complete strangers and gotten nothing in return. Some folks give them a bad rap for ranting agains Har. Har screwed BOTH of them on separate deals causing them to lose money. People go and they come back. Sometimes folks need a break.

As far a me, whatever. I have no issues with you personally per se and don't care to get into it. People are free to go back and read my posts and judge for themselves.

Don't let it get you down. This forum has it ups & downs all the time, all forums do. We're just in a bit of a forum PMS stage right now. Give it month, everybody will be group-hugging again, and all will be well in the kingdom. Not a big deal; It's just differences in opinion, and approach--we all have to avoid getting personal about it, no matter how passionate we may be on a given topic.

“Had he and I but met
    By some old ancient inn,
We should have sat us down to wet
    Right many a nipperkin!

    “But ranged as infantry,
    And staring face to face,
I shot at him as he at me,
And killed him in his place.

“I shot him dead because —
    Because he was my foe,
    Just so: my foe of course he was;
    That’s clear enough; although

    “He thought he’d ‘list, perhaps,
    Off-hand like — just as I —
Was out of work — had sold his traps —
    No other reason why.

“Yes; quaint and curious war is!
    You shoot a fellow down
You’d treat if met where any bar is,
    Or help to half-a-crown.”

    Polksters,

I think in a "Family" their are bound to be disagreements and fights and all the other **** that goes on. I have to say I joined this forum and have not had a bad time at all. Did I get sh** at the beginning from the senior members of course but I was also told to stay awhile and get my learn on and I have. I have sold and brought a few items from the senior members and I have not had a bad transaction yet. Interest checks are what they are and almost always bring about the sale of the item, I look at the interest checks and if they are something I want or may be interested in I make my intensions known or if not I move on, doesn;t bother me one bit. I think we have so much stuff going on the Polk Forum that this issue is Moot. My opinion and that's all it is, an opinion. Carry On.

The senior members here, are that for a reason. They've been around for a long time, they've seen whats gone on here, what works for this forum, and what doesn't. They're part of the reason we have such a great forum, and such a family atmosphere. I'm gonna go ahead and say that it was me that Jesse gave somewhere to stay. And i'm extremely thankfull to him. Not knowing anyone on the HA side of this forum, I went down without arangements cause I wasnt sure that i was going. Jesse was asked by someone if he had room, and said sure. Thats a stand up man in my opinion. That is how our senior members are, and I'll stand by them in keeping our forum a fun place, and a safe place to do business.

    My two cents there....

    Polksters,

I too want to give a big shout out to the Senior Members of the forum. I have had the pleasure of doing business with Russman, Doro, Mantis, Hoosier21, and a few others and everything has worked out fine. I appreciate the time and effort that they have taken to give back to this forum and to me. I remember needing some advice on something and our dearly departed Nascarman giving the advice I needed. I also think that more often that not they are on the ball as far as newbies and other people who try to scam or may be a detrement to our forum. So their judgement should be taken seriously. I have yet to see someone post something bad about a deal with Russ, Doro or anyone else. I have not dealt with madmax(Where's the Jolida!) TroyD or some of the other Senior members but again where are the negative comments about them, their are none because they are straight up and honest with all of us on the forum. Although they may sometimes have differences of opinion they still remain loyal to the forum. So in closing carry on guys and keep this ship running right.

P.S. How many times has George Grand hook brothers up? not a negative comment yet.
