Interest Check!?!

I'd like to address the topic of "interest checks." This is the Polk Flea Market, things get bought, sold and traded here. It's not about sticking ones toe in the water to see if the temperature is warm enough. If you want to sell something, just post it FOR SALE. If you're too lazy to type out the info needed to sell an item, then you shouldn't be trying to sell it in the first place. Have you ever seen an interest check on Audiogon or ePay? No, you haven't and there isn't one single, solitary good reason to do it here. If it were up to me, I'd delete each and every one of them. However, it's not up to me, so it remains up to us, the group, to police the FM. We have "unwritten rules" that have kept the FM a safe place to do business, free from BS and "interest checks" are BS!

On the topic of posting a, "I have something to sell, but I can't disclose it publically." I cry foul and a certain somebody should know better, but then again that certain somebody has a problem with good judgement, so I'm not surprised. I truely hope that's the last of that BS we see here. Utterly ridiculous!

They're fine in my book. Agon and epay don't do it but so what. We're not there. If I wanted to buy an RM system but only needed the sub, I might do a check to find out if anybody would be interested in the center and surrounds. If not I buy the whole thing and risk getting stuck with more stuff I don't need.

I"m not a fan of interest checks myself. that's all i'll say. I want to sell something i here.. i do it the right way. write up a short paragraph or two on it's condition, post a price (including shipping costs if any), post pics and wait to see if anyone want's it.

Otherwise, i don't sell my stuff in here on a interest check basis. Lets all just stick to the rules and get along and move stuff.

I have to agree that I find the "interest checks" a little confusing! Unless the item is truly for sale with condition, price, and pictures, how do I know if I am interested or not? And then we have the whole issue of "calling dibs". I think it is much cleaner and simpler to do away with the "interest checks". Now the situation of buying a package and wanting to know if someone wants a piece of it you do not, is a little different. You are really looking for a partner in the deal. I think those are OK.

The recent post wanting to sell something they can't describe, and only those that already know what they are being in the know, just didn't seem to be a well thought out move. Why not just PM or email those who know what they are and might be interested?

    Just my humble opinion!

Not addressing interest checks at all.....I can't see a thing wrong with what Sean did. He's an established, respected, solid member of CP. I can't understand what all this stupid, unnecessary, divisive bickering is all about. It's just that: stupid, unnecessary, and divisive.

If I feel like interest checking I will interest check. Read the terms and conditions of this forum, it is not a democracy and the overall opinion of the members won't change a thing in this matter. So, if I want to post an interest check for something and someone is interested, then too bad for you.

Decide what, Jesse? I don't really care either way, but from what I've seen here, the members don't get rules changed, they just raise enough hell that people leave out of frustration.

Unwritten rules can't really be be enforced, can they? Who was the last person banned from the forum for offending the unwritten rules?

I see it as a personal issue not a forum rule offense.........clear up my understanding if I'm wrong.

A while back we had a rash of "interest checks", because of that there was the general consensus that we would no longer tolerate them. Not any different than posting a link to an ad on another site. Neither will get someone banned, but both are in bad taste.

Actually, I'm right. Complain all you want. I can still post interest checks if I feel like it, and I'm sure there will still be people interested. If you aren't interested, then leave it alone. Make up rules all you want, and attempt to enforce them all you want.

Can you guys help me to keep the county from putting up stop signs and stop lights every 50 feet? This is what keeps me up at night!

As far as interest checks, cluttersome - yes so IMO use sparingly if at all. I have nothing against them but it's kind of a weak way to sell something. Either you wanna sell it or you don't. We shouldn't have to beg you to post it for sale.

There is an area here for interest checks, it's called the flea market. No need to make it anymore complicated.

Those that piss on the rules both written and unwritten will be called on it. This happens in real life too.

    Yeah, kinda like that.

Interest checks are BS, post the gear for sale WHEN it is actually for sale. Include a detailed description, and photos if possible. Make sure you specify your location, for local pickup. References are always good for new(er) members.

Ya'll do what you want, it's YOUR Flea Market.

When did I say anything about the general consensus? But since you brought it up...the one thing I have noticed at EVERY forum I have ever been a member of, is that forums change over time. So does the general consensus.
