thinking about buying this will my H/K AVR 635 power it fine? work better than my 8 inch sony

    Its self powered, doesn't matter what receiver you use really

    It is a self powered sub so you will not have any issues with power. It will destroy your sony. You will have to rewatch all the movies in your collection just to hear what you have been missing. (yes, even the bad movies) You will be astounded.

    You can also get a free "tune" to about 18hz if you just ask SVS for it. (if you are purchasing it for movies, I would get it - if it is for mainly music, I would not)

    SVS makes a couple of other smaller less expensive subs.. but equally as good. check out their web page.

    Velodyne makes good stuff, but I don't think it quite stands up to SVS dollar for dollar.

    You may want to check out HSU as well if you're considering other brands - it's more equivalent to SVS IMO

    i want sub to shake the foundation when something blows up.....i also have older hardwood floors will this matter?

    With hardwood floors, you'll likely have to put something under the sub to keep it from moving around. If you set it directly on the floor and crank it, that sub will move around on you. While it's cool the first time you see it, not something you want on a regular basis

    Whatever sub you end up with, if you want to cut down on some(not all) of the wood-floor resonances, get a slab of granite to put underneath so the air coming from the subwoofer goes to you and not the floor.

    I have hardwood under carpet.. i tried the slab and although it took some vibration out it also took some impact with it, My room is small and its a big svs.. i didn't drop a G to lesson impact.. suffice to say it works but i prefer full impact!! :D

    I like the impact as well, I just hate rattles(or unwanted vibrations). Some old hardwood floors tend to have a few rattles because of some loose boards here and there.

    If you want to literally just shake things, SVS will do that better than ANYONE for the money. Period.

    I bught my svs last week. (b-stock) I didnt have time to play with location or calibrate my system, but wow what a difference. And I got the lower model 20-39 pci.
    It is a bit on the large side though. But sounds good.

    patience is key to finding good b-stock subs


    the 20-39pci isn't small by any means. nice thing is it weighs just a fraction of what a box sub does. but it's bigger than most people think it's going to be. :D

    How big is the room you are trying to fill? If it is a bed room or dorm room, the PB-10 will be more than enough for you (and they do have some b-stock). If it is a large room, you may want to stick with at least the 20-39. You can e-mail SVS and tell them the size of the room. (be sure to mention you have hard wood floors) also tell them what you are looking for in a sub and they will not steer you wrong....
