I'm Back After a 10 year Hiatus

Well after 10 years I decided to return to the Polk forum. Hope to reconnect with some old friends and connect with some new ones. I still own my awesome vintage Polks and probably always will. They are "keepers".
I hadn't really thought about the forum a whole lot over the years after a short withdrawl period but always planned to come back some day. I have more time now so it seemed like a good time to return. I always valued everyone's contributions on technical issues. They helped me get my system together and improve it too. I'm on a couple other audio forums but since I am a Polk fan, this one was the relevent.
I look forward to hanging with y'all again.

Do post counts reset to 0 after 10 years?
-
I had to register under a new name because my old one was marked as "Banned", even though I wasn't kicked-off, I quit. They said it was too hard to un-ban me and told me to just re-register under a new name.
-
Welcome back… but what was your old pseudo, because I don’t recognize the one you’re using today.
-
so is Jesse permanently banned?- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
-
-
So he was impeached?
Seriously had no idea it was permanent.Since we don’t know where we are going we have to stick together in case someone gets there….Ken Kesey.

Well if you were here back then you might remember me.
I'm one of the SRT enthusiasts and still have my SRT system (just finished listening to music earlier this evening). I still love them. They are so awesome for both home theater and music. I had a friend over who had never heard them before and he was definitely impressed. Once I cranked up Aerosmith "Mama Kin" to earth-shaking seismic level, his jaw dropped. Truly "Performance Without Limits" as Matthew Polk said.
My other interests/hobbies include...- Modern Instrumental Surf Music (Avid Collector)
- Pinball Machines
- Mini Bikes
- Pro Street Cars
I tried to rejoin the forum earlier this year and sent an email to Ken Carter but got no response. Is he still involved with the forum? Then a couple days ago I called the Polk customer service line and they got me back online.
-
I’ve been following this forum for twenty years.
There’s only Ken Swauger around these days AFAIK. He uses the pseudonym “SeleniumFalcon”.
“Ryan_Polk” is the resident super-moderator. -
The Kens in question are not the same individuals.
-
Yeah the last time I communicated with Ken Carter was in 2017. He was in charge of the forum back then.
Is Ryan_Polk a real "Polk"? As-in is he related to Matthew? -
No. No relation. That is just his handle on the forum as an employee. He seems to be in charge of moderation etc. these days. Just put an “@“ in front of that handle, with the underscore, and you can message him when necessary.
Don’t forget that Polk and Sound United are now part of Harman International and the Samsung empire. They purchased Polk (and other Sound United brands) from Massimo just over a year ago. -

It's hard to forget when I never knew that in the first place. Thanks for filling me in on the latest aquisitions. It's hard to keep track of them all nowadays. -

He, along with Nooshinjohn, Toolfan66, Pitdogg2, and many others are over at the revamped Classic Club Polk.
https://audiomilitia.proboards.com/
That place had a reputation for being a cesspool, but Tom, John, and others have really cleaned things up in the last 2 weeks. They have also set community rules that are actually more stringent than what we have here. It is still a work in progress, but you won't find the place unwelcoming anymore. I encourage you to check it out.
-
Wow that sounds pretty-awesome! Can I join the "revamped Classic Club Polk" too?
-

I am not related, it's just an employee tag. I joined Soundunited prior to Masimo acquiring us and then also went through the Harman acquisition but I started with Polk before now where I have a position where I work with all the SU brands (Polk, Definitive Technology, Bowers & Wilkins, Denon Marantz)
It's odd that CS said it would be hard to unban you, I would have been the one to contact about it but hey, you're here now. Regardless, the company has moved around for a bit over the last decade but Polk still remains an MD company with our engineering lab and offices still in Owning Mills, MD. Lots of the older staff is still around, I'm amongst the youngest of the varied teams, probably why I was placed for social media and platform work. Ken isn't around anymore, I was told about him from other team members but never had the chance to meet him. -
I just did what they told me to do. The guy I was talking to was:
Marvin
Polk Audio Customer Care
He seemed like a nice guy. -
I have a great story I tell about my experience with Polk Customer Service on other forums that I'll have to share on here again one of these days.
It's a big reason....

They did purge everything from him since trying to find every post that was offensive was too much work. He is welcome to come back and abide by the new community standards, but it is unknown if he will. -

Thank you for posting this helpful information as I had no idea that place existed. This place isn't the same without the long time knowledgeable members here anymore so time for me to move on as well. -

I was here back then. Now that I read your other interest & hobbies, I am pretty sure I do recall who you were/are. But since you obviously enjoy the anonymity, I'll keep my thoughts to myself. All good. So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

All I have to say is in this now long introductory thread that was posted in good will, only one person (The Mandalorian) welcomed me to the forum. The rest of the comments have all been about how some former member(s) was/were unjustly banned (as-if I had anything to do with it) or promoting some alternative forum we should all join and leave this one for. No one else has anything positive to say?
Why can't we all just get along?

We can, some just choose not to. Welcome Back!
-
Thanks man. That means a lot.
-
I have no axe to grind, nor do I have a dog in this fight. You opted to inform us that you left and took a 10 year hiatus, and the person who "welcomed" you did ask what your former username was, and that got crickets too. So welcome back. I guess maybe some day you'll regale us with your tale of departure.
Or not. At least this time you don't have to post a Bond gif.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Welcome back. The timing of your post was unfortunately at a really awkward time here and drew some suspicion from folks. I don't have any axe to grind either.
-
Thanks guys.

Welcome back! The clubhouse layout and a few faces have changed around here, but it's great to see someone with a fantastic sense of humor dropping back in. Something around here smells. We all can smell it. Some here know more than others, but the stinch remains.
That's all I will say about that. Most of us used to be on a first name basis, yet respected the moniker used. Some folks returning can't even reveal their own existing moniker. Telling. Very telling.
I suspect there are at least two members that have joined back on that actually talk to each other (behind closed doors), making it seem as if two separate members are actually carrying on a conversation.
This has been done before, and it will happen again. Polk management? Take a look. I doubt you will, but it's completely obvious to us. A blind man can even see it. Geez.
Tom~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~
