Looking For Ideas For Speaker Stands

Options
I've been getting into woodworking lately and want to build 4 speaker stands to put 4 Polk f/x1000 bipole/dipole surround speakers on. I plan to use some thick wood of some type for the base and top platforms but haven't decided on what to use in between.

I've seen some with wood posts. Some with PVC pipes filled with sand or shot and a threaded rod tying everything together. Some with metal pipe or tubing.

What do you think Polkies? Any ideas? I'm looking for ideas for the best sonics & cosmetics. I want them to be black though. All my speakers are black.

I was planning to make the bases square and the top platforms triangular matching the footprint of the f/x1000's but am open to any new ideas.

Not many serious woodworkers here. I'd suggest metal stands that are mass loadable. Wood is good too if that's what you like.

You lost me when you said "aesthetics cosmetics" LOL. My design was entirely functional without being horrendously ugly (OK that's debatable lol). Has some vibration isolation between the two concrete blocks (two layers of minimally inflated bicycle tubes) and hardened steel ball and spoon isolators between chunks of elastomer material and the bottom blocks. The column has a faux outer cover but inside is steel pipe filled 50/50 with sand and lead shot. I want to nixx the bicycle tubes and go with springs like in the Townshend Platforms between the bottom block and the floor and incorporate xschop's CNC'd 7075 aluminum seismic isolators between the blocks.

It looks good to me. How much does it weigh?

I don't claim to be a "serious" woodworker but can do the basics. My father passed away a couple years ago and I inherited his woodworking tools. A table saw and a bunch of other stuff. I just built custom crates for my Vinyl records and some modifications to my audio cabinets.

I kind of wanted to build custom stands for my Polk f/x1000 surround speakers because I haven't really found any that look like the triangular speakers would sit on very good without some modifications. Plus I can make them like I want for less than it would cost to buy them (I'm cheap).

I like woodworking though. It's pretty-fun really... as long as I don't lose any fingers or anything on the table saw.

    I'm a shade-tree woodworker.

It sounds like you're a good woodworker already, building record holders.

You can have square posts. Multiple small round posts, Stair spindle posts. Maybe 1x4 posts.

Get yourself some graph paper and draw up a plan of what YOU would like to have.

I have also looked online at speaker stands just to see what others have built. That's always an inspiration for me. B)

Nothing wrong with seeing what others have built and then applying what you can do to improve them or build in some other way that's more affordable. Or just copy.

The speakers you mention have that triangular shape that you can copy for the top plate. That would be cool if they matched. CUSTOM is cool.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

I believe it's about 92 lbs without the speakers. Those concrete blocks are 36 lbs each.

They are awesome that's for sure. :)

Maybe I'll put some "Garden State Brickface and Stucco" on mine"?

:D Just remembering those commercials on TV.

I'm finishing up some final revisions I'm doing to my turntable cabinet and will post them when they are all done. Then the next project is the speaker stands.
