Hearing/Life Update

Hey Polkies,
Been a long time. Have mostly stayed away from the forum as I navigate my loss of hearing (spending too much time thinking about what I am missing out on bums me out).
Wanted to check in a give the folks that care an update of what’s going on. I am at almost the two year mark of randomly going completely deaf in my left ear. I have not gained any amount of natural hearing back unfortunately despite trying every treatment under the moon.
Big update is I got a MED-EL Cochlear Implant installed two weeks ago, and got it activated on this past Wednesday. I can hear again! It’s not great and everything sounds more like Aliens trying to communicate than human voices and sounds but my brain should eventually adjust for it. I am cautiously optimistic the plant will work out very well for me and will allow me to keep my career in the military. Not mush hope in Audiophile land but I’ve mostly made peace with not being able to enjoy this hobby as much in the traditional sense.
Still riding motorcycles, picked up an Indian Sport Chief a few weeks back and have been loving tinkering with it. Still racing R/C cars when I find time. Cooper is now a 3 year old toddler tyrant and family is doing very well!

I'm glad to hear the implant brought some hearing back atleast. Hopefully it will. Improve as you said- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

I went through his in early September. "Idiopathic sudden hearing loss" in the right ear. Luckily my doc got me in that day, and started me on a heavy dose of prednisone for 14 days.
I was sure it wouldn't work. I had a ladder break while trimming trees, and dump me strait down on my buttock two weeks earlier. About 8 feet and hard enough to break the bottom aluminum step when I landed on it. My neck and rear end still hurt, and I was sure it was related to that.
Hearing returned in about two weeks. Tests showed better than normal hearing for my age, with the right ear being slightly better than the left. Just as before. -
Glad you had a better outcome than me. I too caught it early and did the prednisone, both orally and within my ear drum. Also did 10 session in a hyperbaric chamber but nothing helped unfortunately.2 Channel in my home attic/bar/man cave

The idea of a shot through my ear drum terrified me! I was told that would be the next step, glad it wasn't needed. I'm still worried it will happen again, very odd experience.

My right ear is perfect so I will protect that ear at all costs. Cochlear implant seems promising so far, any amount of hearing back is better so there is only up to go from here at this point2 Channel in my home attic/bar/man cave
