I recorded a lot of compilation tapes on one of those decks. The sound quality was unmatched for cassettes. Still have a bunch of those tapes.

I will be sad to see it go. It was my dad’s and is an ikon.2 Channel Rosso Fiorentino Volterra II, 2 REL Carbon Limited, Norma Revo IPA-140B, Norma Revo DAC-2, Lumin U2 Mini, VPI Prime w/SoundSmith Zephyr MIMC, Modwright PH 150, Denon DP-59l w/Denon DL-301MKII, WAY Silver 3 Ana+ Speaker Cables, WAY Interconnect Cables, AudioQuest Niagara 7000 w/Dragon, WAY power cables for all other sources.

Congrats on the sale. I still have a Nak 680 (non-ZX) from my dad's collection that I'll probably keep. I was going to keep it but when I decided to buy the new R2R my wife said all the extra equipment needs to go. But I’m going to keep the Tascam BR-20 that was his. I will use it to record with.2 Channel Rosso Fiorentino Volterra II, 2 REL Carbon Limited, Norma Revo IPA-140B, Norma Revo DAC-2, Lumin U2 Mini, VPI Prime w/SoundSmith Zephyr MIMC, Modwright PH 150, Denon DP-59l w/Denon DL-301MKII, WAY Silver 3 Ana+ Speaker Cables, WAY Interconnect Cables, AudioQuest Niagara 7000 w/Dragon, WAY power cables for all other sources. -

The Tascam BR-20 is a very well-engineered 1/4" pro deck and not too hard to service. I like Teac's and was considering a Tascam pro deck until the Otari came along. The BR-20 is a NAB half (two) track, 7.5/15ips with switchable NAB/IEC equalization... now you can take advantage of The Tape Project/Rhino High Fidelity new recordings at 15ips/IEC EQ.
What tape do you plan on using? I've been using RTM SM911 on the Otari mostly at 7.5ips. Tape gets used up quick at 15ips. My plan is to just use the Tascam as a recording machine as I have a SonoruS ATR10 on the way. And the SonoruS will be a better playback machine. Goal is to make tape copies from the SonoruS to the BR-20 when needed.
I’ve not made up my mind on which tapes to use but the SM911 and 900 are the top contenders. The BR-20 was serviced and recapped about 3 years ago. I’m currently looking for a service center that can properly calibrate/align it.2 Channel Rosso Fiorentino Volterra II, 2 REL Carbon Limited, Norma Revo IPA-140B, Norma Revo DAC-2, Lumin U2 Mini, VPI Prime w/SoundSmith Zephyr MIMC, Modwright PH 150, Denon DP-59l w/Denon DL-301MKII, WAY Silver 3 Ana+ Speaker Cables, WAY Interconnect Cables, AudioQuest Niagara 7000 w/Dragon, WAY power cables for all other sources.
