monitor 10a MW6500 seized

So I recently posted asking about wires and I successfully converted one speaker to dorman fast disconnects and everything sounded amazing again. Thanks again for all the help. I noticed the other speaker, which I was also going to do that to sounded odd, thought it was the wire connections again; however when I disconnected everything to put the disconnects on that speaker as well and I realized one of the MW6500 drivers is seized (I think likely why it sounded odd). I connected my multimeter and the resistance was 7, which is close to what it should be (6.8 IIRC).

I’ve been watching eBay and nothing has come up except ones listed as seized. I’ve read some threads here about recentering the magnet and I don’t think I can make the kit to try to do that. I would really like these running well within a month. If one doesn’t come up on eBay soon, is it worth getting a pair of the clones from midwest speaker? Does anyone here have experience with those? I’d rather have originals, but also it seems like replacing with originals hasn’t worked so well for me if 50% seized 2 years after buying.

MW6500s have the smallest voice coil gap of all MWs and base plate IDs need to be clearanced if you want to keep them.

When you bought them, the ones that seized 2 years later, did you glue the magnets on the front and back?

I didn’t think to measure because the original drivers were MW6500 and so were the replacements

    I did not glue magnets

You would've fared much better if you had glued them. The adhesive that Polk supplier used is notorious for letting go.

I found a local guy who can repair this, so I think I’ll do that instead buying the midwest audio replacements. In the meantime, it sounds like I should glue the working ones. Is the 2 step epoxy mentioned in the thread about fixing magnet shift the best thing? I have super glue at home, but perhaps that’s not the right thing

NO Super glue. Original 2 part JB weld epoxy. Do the parameter around the top and bottom of the magnet. Craft (popcicle) sticks are your friend. apply liberally.
