Hey Guys,

Just grabbed a pair of polk rt800s for a good price as a gift for my dad but when I got home and played a bass rich song I noticed a sort of resonant or vibrational sound from the tweeter. I have a video https://youtu.be/edGANbRhuiM

I'm a novice in the world of speakers but I'm happy to tinker with this.

My first question is whether this is pointing towards a broken tweeter or is there any hope of another situation i.e. loose connection?

Secondly, if tweeter replacement is the best recourse does anyone have advice for a budget replacement? This was part of an overall hifi system so budget is somewhat paramount. As I understand sl6502 is what I should be looking for and those are going for the price of the speaker haha.

Bass frequencies cannot be produced by a tweeter due to the crossover design blocking those frequencies.

  • That I understand, so if this "rattle" is present near the tweeter would it suggest an internal component has failed?

Those tweeter top plates are prone to breaking off at the plastic faceplates. You may be able to remove and glue back together.

Hard to say. Honestly, I can't see or hear an issue in your video.

    Xschop's suggestion is worth pursuing.
