Nope, squeeze that little tab inwards and they come off. You may need to use some little needle nosed pliers and wiggle a bit but you are on the right track.

What's up with the crossover, are you repairing it or doing an upgrade?

I am going to refresh the caps/resistors/polyswitch, pretty much just trying to return it to factory performance.

I went with Jantzen electrolitic caps , poly caps, and resistors because it was cheap, I know others change all to poly caps but I didn't want the difference in poly vs electrolitic esr values affecting the tonal quality of the speaker.

I also ordered some RDO194 tweeters.

Word, why not change the polyswitch with a .5 omh resistor?

Got news for ya, the tonal quality will change regardless.

    Agree with F1 (it happens)

That tonal quality of an electrolytic cap vs same value film cap is technically called 'distortion'.

I expect tonal quality to change, and wonder if it will be an improvement vs what it currently sounds like to my ears

Not sure how to reply to posts lol sorry guys im new to this.

Yes I agree..... although, ESR or as you say "distortion" becomes part of crossover tuneing process, it was my intention to try and get as close as possible to the original sound polk was trying to capture, with the RTA 12C.

After all, I was born in 1990, and didnt get to hear them in 1985😅

I went back and forth on the .5 resistor idea, after reading the forums here on polk.

however, the originak polyswitch used was RXE135 @ .3 ohms, and it was important for me to stick with identical values.

It's okay we have no idea what we are doing either.......

    Rolls eyes 🙄

If you want them to sound the same, keep them as they are. That will save you a lot of time AND money.

If you would like a much better sounding speaker where you have better separation of instruments and a better sound stage, then we can offer some assistance.

Until then carry on with your bad self.

They were not optimal in 1985 due to Polk budget/business and using electrolytics.
Not knocking you, but a set of cheap Solen/Dayton caps will give better resolution than the electrolytics.
I tried a few different caps on my 5B tweeter network, and Nichicon FG 12uf wasn't as detailed as the Dayton.

I would like a much better sounding speaker, carrying on with my bad self has been a life long journey.

I didnt mean to offend, I'm open to your ideas, and that the information i have to give can be wrong or misguided.

Don't think anyone's offended. It's a forum, and suggestions are just that.

I learned recently that some people don’t like the term “better” to describe the sound of capacitors, but with the help of several forum members, I recapped my RTA 15TLs with Sonicap film capacitors three years ago.

Not the cheapest option, but not the most expensive, either. But, without a doubt, the speakers I am listening to now are superior to when I purchased them new in 1992. Not even close.

I get wanting to stay as close to the original as possible as that was my goal, also, but there are better options when you’re going through the effort. (There’s that word again.)
