B&k amp

(HT setup)
I'm currently powering my RTI
a9's with a b&k reference 200.2 (I love the sound). The rest of my 5.1 is running off an old Yamaha AVR which I plan to upgrade to a 9 channel this year.

I have a chance to get a display model B&K HTA 7.150 (7 channel 150w RMS @ 8 ohm) for 2500 USD. I figure I could bi-amp the front 3 for now and have the option to power a full 5.1.4 setup in the future.

Should I pull the trigger on this amp or consider going a different route since I plan to be getting a new avr and who knows what else in the near future?

I would pass as the B&K of today is not the same as the one that built your old 200.2 and is IMHO untested.

I would look for an older 200.5 or 200.7 as they can be had for much less.

There are also other brands that make decent amps like Rotel or Parasound that I also would trust over this new B&K.

Note: I’ve been running a 200.5 for at least 10 years myself and would only replace it with a 200.7 🤣

You cannot biamp with an AVR, period.

I am aware that you can't biamp with an avr. I meant I could do that for now if I got a 7 channel amp.

I would love to get a 200.5 if I could find one.

He was talking about using a 7 channel external amp with a 5 channel system, so he could bi-amp the fronts, but it probably wouldn't really be a huge difference in a pair of RTi.

I wasn't even aware the B&K name was still in business. The amp looks interesting and comes from a legendary designer, but I can't tell from anything I can see online if it's really a traditional B&K type MOSFET design internally or more of an ATI relative. It certainly looks like a B&K design cosmetically from the outside.

If I couldn't confirm what the internals were like I'd get something different. The 200.5 is a good idea. I think I had a B&K three channel amp at one time. Anyway, I had several of their amps over the years and enjoyed all of them until their bankruptcy.
