Right now as my mains I've got a set of fully modded RTA 11tls. These are also pulling home theater duty with a Monitor 5 series 2 as my center. The rears are monitor 4s.

I love my RTAs but I've been remodeling my basement and I'm wondering if its time for an upgrade to a set of Polk Reserves.
Speakers: TL Monitor 10s, RTA 11TLs, Fortes, Thiel CS 1.2
Amplifiers: ]Ashly FTX 2001 III, Dynaco ST-70, DIY F6
Pre: Adcom GFP 750, Aikido Tube Pre

I mean I'm absolutely the wrong person to answer this question. I change my speakers like most do underwear. So yeah , get new ones especially with a remodel. It's the only reason I just got all new speakers in my Family Room as we are remodeling in a few months so I decided to get the new speakers now. Not to mention I just like getting new speakers.

I never got to hear the reserve speakers. I have heard watched and read so many good things about them so I think it's a pretty safe bet to give them a try, You could get the front channels first to give them a go to see if you like them.

I can see significant gains being made in bass reproduction, cohesion, and clarity having the front three speakers be R700s and an R400 but they will sound significantly different from what you have now. You may or may not prefer the difference in sound or appearance. They are more modern looking if you're looking for that.

Don't necessarily need to change the surrounds right away or at all. The RTA speakers weren't generally known as one of Polk's best design efforts.

If you haven't heard any of the Reserve speakers you could order a pair of R200s to get an idea of the sound signature and return them if you don't like them.

I also wondered the same question after owning for many years a pair of updated SDA 2Bs. Took the plunge 2 years ago with the Polk L600s after reading a review in The Absolute Sound. I miss the SDAs but don't regret the Legends.
