Makes No sense, Enter Monitor Audio Bronze Series
Hello everyone,
So I decided since in a few months, we are gutting the Family Room and the colors and decor is all going to change. I'm this time incorporating Acousitcs and big Black speakers are not going to look right.
So White speakers it is and I have been selling and installing Monitor audio for a very long time and this is a brand I knew at some point I was going to bring into my homes. I took home a pair of Bronze 50 7g's for the Office, I made a thread about them and the more I listened, I decided what the hell, lets try out the rest of the line in my home. You can install them in peoples home and get an idea how good or bad they are but in your room, with your equipment, you get a deeper sense IF what you like elsewhere follows you home.
Well I got the 5 floor level system. I got the Bronze 300 7g Floor standers , the Bronze 7g Center and to round it off , the Bronze 7g wall's, which I haven't hung yet, that's going to require some work as I still have my Definitve Technology Mythos 10's back there. Killer speakers to be honest and the Mythos line has been a speaker I have a hard time moving away from. I had to pick up a front 3 of Focals and just take them out to stop using them.
Now I have the Montiors and I'm tickled. This time I didn't go up the ladder, I actually went entry level. I wanted to know if at the ground level can Montior excite me as the Silvers, the Golds have many times as well honestly the Bronze has always had my eye because they should NOT sound this good for this kind of money . Makes absolutely no sense. I feel like the days of discovering the OG Playstation made one hell of a CD player.
I'm not going to review them yet as they are still very new to me and don't even have 100 hours on them , but I gotta admit, out of the box , the first song I listened to they took me. Dazzled me and they shouldn't but they do.
I'll post some pics , Once I get the Walls hung and get a full calibration I'll speak of them again.

Took out the Focal center

Replaced it with the Monitor
Removed the Focal Floor standers

Replaced them with the Bronze 300 7g's

Front Shot
Be PROUD Phil , I got the SPL 1200 working, it's in the right front of the room where one of my DD10 Plus was. Working just fine now.

Nice, I'm hoping your piggy bank has some serious coin in it and they could be yours.
Jokes aside if you are actually interested in them, PM me and we can talk about it.Dan

Phil a while ago gave me the SPL 1200 , it was not working. He was just tripping over it so he wanted it out of his house. I repaired it awhile ago, tested it in my system where one of my DD 10 Plus sits and just lazy me never took it back out and put the Oh so heavy DD 10 Pus back in. The SPL sounds not quite as good as the DD 10 does but it's a good quality good sounding subwoofer and it doesn't look bad so my wife hasn't kicked me to get it out so there it sits and eventually I'm gonna replace the DD 10's anyway with white subwoofers. Not sure with what, Monitor Subs are good but I feel I can do better with a few other brands like SVS and KEF. KEF's little KC62 white compact Subwoofers are awesome. They hit very hard , disappear in the room when setup correctly, have awesome built quality and I really presonally like them. I put them in a full KEF system I built for one of my clients and it reminded me of when the MINI V's came out by Velodyne , the SUBERCUBE III by Def Tech , and Bob Carvers offerings all back than when you installed 2 subwoofers into a system, have no expectation of them performing well because of their small size and yet they make you laugh on how damn good they sound.
My DD 10 Plus subwoofers are gloss black and for the new decor , they are not going to work out. If they were a Light wood color or White, I would absolutely keep using them. They are truly an incredible subwoofer.
Thank you,
I can see why your friend swears by Monitor Audio. I have been Installing / selling them for a very long time and each year , each model they impress me. "So White speakers it is"
Had a pair of the original Legacy-Audio Focus speakers in a white wash oak finish. They came with white speaker grills.
Had Legacy re-do my grills in black and man they looked great. -
The tweeter in the Monitor Audio Bronze and Silver series was unlistenable in my opinion. I found it to be harsh, bright, and unpleasant.
I returned both the Bronze 2 and Silver 100 7G pairs I had. They also both lacked any sort of low end response to speak of, which is bizarre considering the Silver had an 8" woofer. -
I like Monitor speakers for what they are but they wouldn't be my choice to own. They're known to be bright sounding because of the composition of the driver materials. A little unusual for a company with British heritage. Some Focal speakers are similar in the tweeter sound but to my ears better in the midrange and bass because of the cone materials they choose.
Dan, I'm guessing you'll be going lighter on the paint colors? Those white speakers stand out way more than the black ones than I was expecting. But I do think they'd blend in to the eye better with the black speakers removed from the view. -

Flavor of the month, plain white vanilla.
To each their own. No matter if it was the best speaker on the planet, I could NOT have a pair in white, couldn't do it. White however seems to be BIG over seas. -
I had a set of Def techs with high gloss white top and bottom caps and I changed the white cloth sock to black... I thought it k pretty classy. The white cloth was ugly though no question- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

That is an odd experience you had. I have listened to basically the entire line of Monitor Audio going back about 15 years or so now. I never found any of their models in ceiling or in wall speakers to have the traits you experienced.
The Silver 100 7g's hit pretty hard for a bookshelf speakers so again , I have not experienced what you did. I mean my Bronze 50 7g dig deep and hit low with a lot of bass control. Maybe you sat in a Null I assume? Not sure or maybe you had them wired out of phase, that would reproduce poor bass response.
Monitor Audio is one of those brands I have not come across anyone who had a bad experience as you did. Sorry about that man.Dan

We are going with more earth tones , browns , tans , whites , Rock colors etc. The back wall which is currently Blue will be Acoustic Wood panels. They will go up 8 or 9 feet on the wall and then the left over wall above 8 or 9 feet will be painted a shade of tan , brown or some shade of off white.
We are getting new rug , but the hallway to the right will have hardwood flooring to go from the Kitchen to the back bedrooms which runs across the front door and the Family Room.
This is an example picture of what's to come.

What do you have against White speakers? I'm at the point I'm beyond tired of big black boxes. I don't want to own Black speakers ever again unless they completely fit the decor. I actually prefer more of a natural wood color. It is possible I may step into Monitor Audio Silvers , they have this awesome ASH color that also would work very well in our new Decor coming this spring into summer.
This is the color I'm still thinking of also picking up.
These are the Monitor Audio Silver 300 7g.

White reminds me of the house's of my youth. White formica, white starburst formica, counters, cabinets and shower walls. Uuggh!
Any real wood, walnut, cherry, maple even Ash. I do not like Oak unless it's been dyed a solid color. Plain stained Oak for me is a no go.
White for me is a very BOLD stand out in your face color for a speaker.
My preference nothing more, nothing against your choice. -
Yeah, white feels like a fad...black or woodgrain are my classic choices. It's fine for now and I'm sure it will look great. 10 years from now they will feel passe. Maybe the Gen Alpha kids getting out of college will think they are rizz and 6,7. Hopefully not a skibidy toilet, but maybe that's still good? I don't have my Gen Alpha translator on tonight.

I need to buy the Focal towers before you all talk mantis out of the monitors! LOL
Quick Batman, PM incoming! (seriously).

No worries my friend , no offense taken. We all like what we like and don't like for all the reasons you pointed out. As me, I'm way out on Black speakers, I have had so many of them it's mental. Basically almost all my speaker choice with a few exceptions have been black, Gloss black or like in the LSI days Gloss black with Cherry sides and another set I had LSI where Gloss black and Ebony. I had Dynaudio in Maple finish and they were sweet. Advents when I was younger along with some JBL 's and such in walnut colors.
What's pretty cool this time around, my wife didn't kick me with my yet another speaker change. She I think is past thinking I'm mental and just excepts I have a condition LOL. She also said the white and being a smaller speaker than my usual is a nice change, so wife approved is a pretty good thing.Dan

Most who know me around here for the last so many decades know I change my system speakers cables etc like the wind changing. So they are here now but down the road they will be out and something else will take their place. White speakers have been around a very long time. I use to do a lot of Boston Acoustics in white back in my Bryn Mawr Tweeter days. They were very popular. But than again so was Bose Lifestyle systems.Dan

With your room decor you can definitely pull it off with white. Actually looks pretty nice.
I can see after years of nothing but black or wood tones you can get the itch to try something new. -
White speakers are 🤮
It's all good man, that's why they make them in different colors and finishes.Dan

I'm over black speakers man. Not that they are not sexy as hell but I wanted a change. I mentioned the new decor , I'm not feeling black speakers no matter what they are.
You might think I'm nuts, well you know I am LOL , I'm considering bringing home a pair of Monitor Audio Silver Ash finish to see what I actually like better once we get started on the remodel. Right now the White is working, the wife likes them even my daughter commented on how nice they look and how good they sound. She never cares about any of that but that's pretty cool.Dan

I hear what y'all are saying and felt the same way.
Late 90's when looking for, the above mentioned first pair of Legacy Focus, I came across these white ones with the white speaker grills. Bought them from a fella on A-gon, they had been up for sale for quite a long time. I saw why they were not selling... yeesh. Well, the price was insanely low and couldn't pass on them.
Man, they were loud looking in our room.
Then thinking hey, what would they look like with black grills. Seriously, not bad at all, tamed down the look a lot.
They're large speakers like the SDS SRS, just not as wide.
Had a surround system with the white Focus up front, a pair of dark finished Focus in the rear with a dark finished Legacy Silverscreen center channel & the Point One sub. Driven by Legacy's Monoblocks (Coda Built) and can't remember the processor.
Only picture I still have of the white Focus speakers...

The Velodyne DD series subs are iconic, in my opinion. I have owned subs from SVS, HSU, Sunfire, Klipsch (the high end models) and Martin Logan. I have heard and spent time with subs from JL Audio (Fathom), GSG, REL, Speedwoofer and more that I just can’t remember. While some subs - specifically large ported models from GSG - certainly have more output than a DD sub, I have never encountered a sub that sounds better (especially with music) or integrates into a system better than the DD series. The sealed design coupled with the almost limitless tweekability of the DSP suite allows for a level of integration that is unsurpassed. Granted, the process of said integration can be somewhat arduous and time consuming, but when done correctly provides the most seamless blending I have ever experienced.
I don’t envy your position, because I have a feeling that whatever sub(s) you end up with will have an uphill battle replacing your DD10 subs:-) In the end, if you just can’t live without them, there are still options;-)

Geez you whipped out the spray paint. Yeah I have to agree with you on their sound quality. I to have done countless subwoofer over the decades from entry level to extreme high end. I installed Wilson Audio Watch Dogs and when Martin Logan released their brand new never in the game before Subwoofer line all those years ago, I installed heard and setup the very first models released. I very much love the sound quality and depth the DD Plus bring. I have a SPL 1200 in my Family room and you can clearly tell the difference between the SPL line which by the way was awesome when they came out and the DD . The DD hits harder faster deeper and hits you on the inside and goes away so fast you don't know what hit you. The SPL also hits deep hard and clean but it doesn't have the same impact. It's less than 1/2 the price as well new so there is that.
Velodyne pisses me off. They allowed themselves somehow to fall victim to brands like JL Audio and SVS. Right now both of those companies are extremely hard to beat. SVS has prices that don't make sense with the level of performance they offer. They also do that with their speaker lines. I heard them all and I gotta say super impressive . Anyway Velodyne is like in Germany now and has been for awhile last I checked which I don't anymore. I kinda wrote them off as being dead. I have been into Velodyne since the 90's. Hell I own I think 5 of them currently or 6 I forget, Oh maybe 7 of them. I have 2 MINI Vee's I have 2 MICRO VEE"S , 1 SPL1200( Thanks Phil ) and 2 DD 10 plus. Yeah 7 Velodyne subwoofers in my home. I'm not telling you how many others I own LOL.Dan

As far as a new Subwoofer, so far I'm liking the Kef and SVS. Who the hell knows where I'll end up. If I found an actual furniture maker who could take my DD 10 pluses and refinish them Satin White? I probably would do that then buy new ones. The Grill material would have to be changed as well to match closer to the Monitor grills which is not black or gray but some kind of mixture color. It's nice.
Or another cool idea would be to finish the DD's in ASH like the Monitor Silver line has. That would probably force me to upgrade again.Dan
