This event with police cars in front of my house this afternoon will stay with me till I die.

A cop car and a cop SUV were in front of my house for a while today, around 4 pm. The lights were on too. I had to get that dirt shoveled, so I kept working. The sun was behind the trees now and its starting to get cooler. I had 1/2 hour to go so I shoveled dirt.

30 minutes later, they're still here! The lights are still on too.

Are they here to meet a Coroner because my neighbor across the street has stage 4 cancer, and he just told me the night before that he was really, really feeling rough? Cops sat on the road a few months ago for a neighbor because he passed at home 2 doors over. The cops sat for over 30 minutes that day till the coroner came.

I thought of calling my neighbor with cancer, and then I thought, I'm almost done I'll call him in 5 or 10 minutes.

Well, 2 women cops came to my white vinyl fence section on the side and called my name. Tony? Yeah, that's me. Have you been outside for the past 30 minutes or more? Yeah, I've been out here for the whole afternoon. Oh...did you hear any gunshots? A few gunshots? No, I haven't. I have a radio playing where I'm working, but it's not that loud at all. Ok, thank you, Tony. I thanked them for their service and for responding to a possible gunfire incident.

I finished up and then thought...I hit the property line marker pipes 30 minutes before or more digging that corner out. There's a couple in that corner, and I hit those suckers HARD! a few times or more. I'm talking full force with the shovel lifted high, trying to cut through roots right beside the pipes.

I went to the road to see if they were down the street, and one car WAS. Too far for me to walk, so I went back to work to finish up. It was getting cold, and I wanted to rake the dirt piles down and be finished. I saw the one cop SUV drive past my driveway about 10 minutes after I looked down the street.

I know the police here have listening devices atop utility poles in certain areas. When gunshots go off, I'm guessing these microphone arrays tri-angulate? to try and pinpoint the location of the shot(s).

I wouldn't think hitting a pipe, solid or hollow, in the ground would be loud enough to trigger something like that. If it could, you'd think any kind of construction etc. would set them off.

Yes they do.
They also have eyes...

Retired Lineman here and we used to work with the local police on some things.
They would come to us with court orders to install these transformers on the poles, in rear easements, in some questionable neighborhoods.
The transformers were actually cameras and video. If you didn't know what you were looking at one could never tell they're spy equipment.
They had fused cutouts, surge arresters, primary taps and secondary hookups to look damn near real.
