Got the grain flowing nicely from one panel to the next.

Got the tops on the first 2 speakers ..

Going to let them dry a bit and then do the fronts.

I like how the grain on these look. I’m thinking to just use a clear gel

Maybe phase plugs and dynamat inside the baskets of the woofers would do the trick…?

You should investigate tung oil (the 100% real stuff - not fake tung oil like Watco, etc.)

That's the kind of outside-the-box, innovative thinking this thread needs!
I was thinkin' biamp and PEQ with DSP... but it would be so less elegant.

Maybe convert the port hole to a mini PR.

    Airhole, yes?
Oh... my mistake! Those are for subwoofers.

I think the Monitor 4 will do a pretty good job with the cowbell... unless the XO to the tweeter is too high [EDIT] low. In that case, it might get a bit dicey. The phase plug'll def. help, though.
I like @F1nut's idea, too. Pretty sure PartsExpress has itty-bitty PRs. Otherwise, I guess the OP'll have to bore and stroke his airholes... I mean... port holes.

I cut some new foam .. these are less thick than the others one I cut out. This also looks like what was originally in the speakers

Give him a pass. Probably just the excessive expression or cytoplasmic post-translation modification as of late. ;)

Someone on another forum suggested only using diffraction around the bottom of the Peerless tweeters but not the top .. I’m going to try both ways the see it there’s a difference

How permanent is that fabric glue? Can you remove the wool in the future and clean off the residue if you so choose? I had thought about trying "gummy glue" sticks like what they use when they send you a credit card stuck to a piece of paper. I think the problem was having to buy a special low temperature glue gun but I didn't pursue it much. Maybe one could throttle down a standard glue gun with a speed control.

That one works good. Fabric on fabric its pretty much permanent but on metal or plastic it rolls up like the gummy glue.

If you're brave, remove the faceplate, heat a large marble in water and drop it in the back side of the dome and roll around. Works on a dented wuhan. B)

At some point I took the Peerless from the 1983 pair and put those in my Monitor 7Cs as an upgrade to the SL1000. That was the nicest pair I had, they looked basically brand new.

The ones with the lumpy domes came out my mini-monitors. Those had a foam grill that mashed up the tweeters.

I put a large chunk of open cell foam between the tweeter and MW, only I put it on top of the wool. I liked the results so much that I kept it, despite looking ugly (I don't listen with my eyes). I believe it helps reduce vertical lobing and comb filtering from interference around the crossover point.

Train wreck or not the veneer is looking nice 👍

The top photo shows the bottom where the grain runs out so I aligned it as best as possible to make it look like its flowing to next panel even though it’s not.

Next a light sanding to get the edges a bit better then to figure what finish to go with.

I got enough veneer for the other 2 monitor 4s and probably a pair of monitor 5s. This is practice leading up to the veneer on my SDAs that I want to do in some fancy maple.

@F1nut showed me a super cool video a while back using dye. If a can manage that on the SDAs I'll be very happy
