polk 707 "6x9" speaker repair

Finally got me a pair of these in cherry. were put up in storage for a while and somehow there is a hole in the surround of one of the 6x9 drivers. not big. best way to repair it?

I was thinking id get a tire patch and cut very small piece and put one on each side -
Bad idea, too much weight in one spot and the flex will be affected.Political Correctness'.........defined

what about on just one side? the hole is smaller than pinky fingernail. about half that. it plays now just like it is but at higher volume it might. afraid it might tear -
